Network Engineer III

Position Summary:Duke Energy Cincinnati, OH or Plainfield, IN office is seeking a Telecom Data Network Engineer in support of ongoing and emerging work across the Midwest region network. This position requires a solid understanding of routing and switching and a general understanding of wireless and firewall technologies. Network automation with programming and scripting are additional skills that are highly valued. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who exceeds with little supervision and works well with small teams using Agile engineering principles. This is a hybrid position with a requirement to be in the office at least 3 days a week.Responsibilities and Duties:The successful candidate will implement, test and document standard network solutions at both substation and corporate office locations. They will ensure correct documentation is in place, alarming capabilities are properly enabled, asset system information is updated and change impact is properly documented and approved.Configuration of Cisco routers and switches following enterprise architecture configuration templates, standards, and processesPrepare engineering job packages consisting of detailed parts/equipment lists, logical installation instructions and appropriate documentation (drawings, wiring diagrams, layouts, etc.) to support an efficient installation and maintenance processCreate or maintain physical and logical network drawings as well as rack and power drawings leveraging MS Visio following standard templatesWork effectively with other team members and business partners to successfully implement data network solutionsPotential troubleshooting of routing, switching and firewall policies during turn-upsMonitor installation work to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, guidelines, standards, and proceduresAdhere to change management practicesProcure, turn-up and troubleshoot both private and public WAN circuitsPrepare and submit cost estimates for planned installations where requiredWork in an Agile engineering environment on team-based projects and assignmentsPerforms related activities as directedRequired Qualifications:Pass a background checkAbility to work well within a teamGood interpersonal/relational skillsEffective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to follow processes and be detail-orientedAbility to work productively with little direct supervisionDemonstrated working experience with Cisco routers, switches, and access pointsGood understanding of copper and fiber standards and associated connector typesSolid understanding of Layer 2 technologies such as VLANs, Dot1q trunks, and the Spanning Tree ProtocolSolid understanding of IPv4 and subnetting as well as OSPF and BGP routing protocolsAbility to troubleshoot basic layer 2/3 communication issuesGeneral understanding of wireless technology, protocols, and standardsGeneral understanding of firewall technology and policiesDesired Qualifications:Self-directed, motivated, and organizedCisco certifications: CCNA Enterprise, CCNP Enterprise, CCNP SecurityWorking knowledge of WAN technologies such as Ethernet, cell modems and T1sAdvanced knowledge of OSPF and BGP protocolsStrong understanding of front-door VRFs, DMVPN and MPLS L3VPNsAdvanced understanding of IP ACLs, prefix-lists, route-maps, as-path ACLs, and community-listsExperience with Cisco controller-based solutions such as ISE, DNAC, SDWAN and ACI a plusDemonstrated experience with the following network hardware/software solutions:Palo Alto firewallsOpengear terminal serversSolarWinds monitoring solutionBluecat IPAM toolExperience with SCADA communication systems and working in a regulated utility environmentExperience with JIRA and agile methodologiesExperience navigating process-oriented workflows, understanding many different internal business partner requirements, and building good working relationshipsWillingness and ability to learn new skillsLogistics:12 month W2 contract with potential for extension or hireLocation: Cincinnati, OH or Plainfield, INEnvironment: Hybrid (In-office 3x per week)Compensation: $52/hrW2 Only - We are unable to provide sponsorship currently (US Citizen & GC holder only)Eight Eleven Group provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, citizenship, disability, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, amnesty or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
