In this role you will evaluate financial situations in accordance with regulatory compliance and maintain patient confidentiality and dignity. You will be able to apply your strong communications skills in this position.ResponsibilitiesYou will explain topics of insurance coverage, treatment costs, and financial assistance opportunities to the patient, relative, or patient's representativeYou will provide expertise and education in the areas of Medicaid eligibility, Social Security Disability and any available government programsYou will perform complete and accurate Patient registrations according to the organization's policy and procedures and federal/state regulatory requirements, acting as an ambassador to ensure a patient-friendly experienceYou will complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic information, insurance data and/or third-party liability informationYou will complete regulatory or policy required forms, including payor requirements such as Medicare, L & I requirements and some commercial payors, and obtains all necessary signatures via mail or upon registrationYou will provide patient liability information to and collects the point of service cash from patients based on guidelines and/or systems provided by the department, including but not limited to: co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, deposits, outstanding balancesRequirementsCompletion of a medical terminology course or proficiency preferredCertified as an Application Counselor (CAC) within 90-days of employmentMinimum three (3) years healthcare collection, financial counseling, insurance benefit verification and/or precertification, third party payor, Medicaid case work or billing experience requiredAbout Tacoma General HospitalMultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, in the heart of Tacoma, WA, is a 367-bed regional medical center delivering cutting-edge care. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $26.53 - $40.35 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
