Jersey City Medical Center is also ideally located- in the vibrant Jersey City waterfront community overlooking the harbor, just 10 minutes from New York City, with a grand view of the Statue of Liberty.Qualifications:Required:BSNStrong communication and organizational skillsProficient computer SkillsPreferred:* National Certification preferredCertifications and Licenses Required:Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsementNRP and STABLE certification within 3 months of hire and maintenance every two years are requiredBLS from the American Heart AssociationScheduling Requirements:Night Shift 7p-7aMonday - Friday with weekend and holiday rotationsFull Time 40 hours per weekEssential Functions:Assists Nurse Manager with ensuring that quality nursing care is delivered to all patients and his/her nursing units in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospitalAssists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing educationProvides input into evaluation of staff performance in accordance with organization policiesParticipates in nursing Quality ImprovementAssists with unit administration, including scheduling, payroll and maintenance of supplies and equipmentMaintains and role models clinical skills necessary to provide care to patientsUses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and careEnsure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulationsEnsure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulationsOther Duties:Directs patient care in a manner that promotes the highest standards of careEvaluates the quality of nursing care delivered by nursing staff by reviewing plans for care and teaching protocols, assessing patient and interviewingIdentifies problems and/or areas requiring improvementsEnsures patient satisfaction as evidenced by Press Ganey scores in response to patient questionnairesResolve problems involving staff, patients, families, physicians and other hospital departmentsCommunicates effectively and seeks direction in a timely and appropriate mannerServes on inter and intradepartmental committees and special task forces; In collaboration with Nurse Manager ensures that state, JCAHO and federal requirements are completed and documented in an appropriate and timely mannerIn collaboration with Nurse Manager develops unit goals in accordance with departmental goals and plans change to improve patient careEffectively manage the day to day operations of the unitAssists with unit staff schedules; on a daily basis, identifies the number and level of personnel required to provide patient care based on patient needs and individual needs and individual skill levels, and adjusts staffing and assignments appropriatelyAssesses the physical environment of the unit for cleanliness and safety hazards, and responds appropriately to effect a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, personnel and the public; evaluates equipment and supplies, and monitors for quality and effectivenessReviews work in progress to ensure that treatments, medications, tests and procedures will be completed in a timely mannerParticipates in the interdisciplinary planning for patient care, including discharge planningCollaborates with Nurse Manager to monitor unit budgetsMaintains Clinical Competencies Necessary for the Provision of Care and Staff Professional DevelopmentServes as a resource for nursing staff; maintains clinical skills, develops management skillsIn collaborating with Nurse Manager, evaluates the performance and competency of all nursing staff on an ongoing basisCollaborates with Nurse Manager and Human Resources in the interpretation and implementation of labor contracts; interview and hires employees, extends probation, recommends promotions, approves transfers and terminates in consultation with Nurse Manager and Director of NursingPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
