Corporate Counsel - Veterinary Industry
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel to join our dynamic team in Tampa, Florida.
As Corporate Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding our organization against legal risks by offering advanced and complex legal advice. Working closely with senior leaders and various departments, you will ensure compliance and provide strategic insights on legal matters. Your expertise will help guide major legal actions, support contract negotiations, and manage complex litigation, all while contributing to the continued success of our company.
As the Corporate Counsel, you will:
Legal Advisory: Provide expert advice on employment-related matters, regulatory compliance, and operational issues.
Contract Management: Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and agreements across various departments.
Litigation Management: Lead and manage complex litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims and demands.
Corporate Legal Processes: Handle intellectual property, mergers & acquisitions, financial/securities offerings, compliance issues, transactions, and patents.
Client Relations Support: Assist with escalated client complaints and ensure effective resolution.
Regulatory Compliance: Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers, and the business community.
Licensing Oversight: Work with the corporate paralegal to oversee the licensing of veterinary hospitals.
Legal Initiatives: Lead and participate in Legal department initiatives such as template agreement development.
Strategic Guidance: Advise senior management on responding to legal issues and changes in laws and regulations.
Continuous Learning: Stay informed about developments in veterinary services and legal practices.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the Florida State Bar (or eligibility to practice as registered in-house counsel).
A minimum of 8 years of legal experience in a large firm or in-house setting, with a focus on complex legal work.
Strong critical thinking skills and decisive judgment, with the ability to work independently.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
In-depth knowledge of specialized legal concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to the veterinary industry.
