Outside Sales Representative

A Building Materials Outside Sales Representative drives revenue by prospecting, managing B2B client accounts, and selling products like windows, doors, millwork, lumber, and more to contractors and builders. Success requires deep product knowledge, blueprint estimation skills, and the ability to travel frequently to job sites within a designated regional territory.Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development: Actively prospect, generate leads, and acquire new B2B clients through cold calling, site visits, and industry networking.Account Management: Maintain relationships with existing builders, contractors, and developers to ensure satisfaction and secure repeat business.Estimating & Quoting: Read blueprints, perform material take-offs, and generate accurate, competitive price quotations for clients.Order Fulfillment: Collaborate with inside sales teams, design staff, and logistics coordinators to ensure timely and accurate material deliveries.Field Problem-Solving: Visit active construction sites to resolve product issues, manage material returns, and assist with product selections.Market Analysis: Monitor competitor pricing, product trends, and regional construction activity to adjust sales strategies.Collections: Work alongside the finance department to assist in the collection of accounts receivable and manage customer credit issues. Essential QualificationsExperience: 3 to 5 years of proven outside sales experience, specifically within the construction, lumber, or building materials industry.Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with building codes, construction materials, and the structural requirements of residential or commercial buildings.Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, utilizing CRM software, and using material estimating tools.Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to build long-term trust with trade professionals.Requirements: A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to walk active job sites and lumber yard.
