The Certified Nursing Assistant is a paraprofessional member of the InterdisciplinaryTeam who performs various services for a patient and family as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs.T h e C N A is responsible for observing, reporting, and documenting care performed.Essential Job Functions* Responsible for performing personal care needs after being given a patient's assignment and attendingto his/her requests promptly. If unable to perform a certain task, report to the RN immediately.* Responsible for meeting the safety needs of patients and using equipment safely and properly* Responsible for giving direct personal care, including complete or partial baths in the tub orshower as ordered, back rubs, oral hygiene, hair care, shaving (using an electric razor only), andchanging bed linen as often as assigned.* Responsible for assisting in the dressing and undressing of patients as assigned.* Responsible for providing proper care and observation of the patient's skin to prevent breakdown oftissue over bony prominence.* Responsible for reporting on the patient's condition and significant changes to theassigned RN* Responsible for being aware of and reporting on the status changesof the caregiver or other individuals living with the patient, and interpersonal issues that may come up* Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the RN or therapist while adhering to thetransfer/assist transfer policy of the agency.* Assistance with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations ('reminders.")* Responsible for providing incontinent care as needed. Offering and assisting with bedpans andurinals. Providing assistance as assigned with light laundry needs.* Responsible for keeping the patient's living area clean and orderly, including bed linens and cloths asneeded while being respectful of the patient and family/caregiver environment and personal needs as time allows* Responsible for adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standardsof personal and professional conduct.* Other office /administrative duties as assignedQualifications(Minimum qualifications will be considered required unless specifically stated otherwise)Experience:Minimum of one (I) to two (2) year's experience in health care preferred.Experience in acute care in an institutional setting preferred.Experience in homecare preferred.Education and Training:(Acquired through formal education, outside study, training on jobs of lesser degree, or by any combinationof these. May be expressed in terms of formal educational equivalents):* High school diploma or equivalent.* Satisfactory completion of a training program approved by M.D.P.H. for HCA-II andother regulators.* Training equivalent to an approved certification program (such as C.N.A. or Student Nurse),applicants must be oriented to home care.License, Certification & Registration:Possesses and maintains current CPR Certification.Current Massachusetts licensure: Certified Nursing AssistantValid driver's license and automobile insuranceOther Requirements:Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.Strong observation skills and problem solving skills.Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.Ability to provide a calm and empathetic demeanor in patient's homes.Job Limitations:The CNA will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursingaccording to the Nurse Practice Act Specifically, the CNA will notadminister medications, take physician's orders or perform procedures requiring training,knowledge and skill of a licensed nurse, such as sterile technique.Working Conditions* Uniform/ Dress Requirements (Beyond those requirements outlined within Policy No.C:3-015.1):NoneWorking Conditions:* May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold in all weather conditions. Must drive in variousweather conditions on roads in varying repair.* May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Contact with patients under a wide varietyof circumstances. May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements. Subject to varyingand unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Travel required.
