Associate Electrical Engineer12-Month Contract-to-HireNew York, NY – Hybrid (3 days onsite)Pay Rate: $35–40/hrJob Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Electrical Engineer to join our team within the electric utility industry. This individual will support engineering efforts related to underground and overhead cable design, routing, and installation. As part of the engineering group, you will play a key role in analyzing cable paths, performing electrical calculations, and supporting installation planning to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable power delivery. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career to gain hands-on experience in utility engineering and infrastructure projects.Responsibilities:Cable Routing & Design:Analyze and determine optimal routing paths for electrical cables, considering distance, environment, and surrounding infrastructureEvaluate impacts to traffic, public safety, and existing utility systems when designing cable layoutsSupport planning of underground and overhead cable installationsElectrical Analysis & Calculations:Perform voltage drop calculations and support cable sizing and selectionAssist with pulling tension calculations and installation feasibility assessmentsInterpret electrical drawings and support design modifications as neededInstallation Support:Provide engineering support for cable installation activities, including cable pulling and routing executionWork with field teams to ensure designs are implemented accurately and safelyIdentify and troubleshoot issues related to installation constraints or design challengesProject Support:Collaborate with project teams on new construction, upgrades, and maintenance projectsPartner with civil, structural, and mechanical teams to ensure alignment across disciplinesAssist in developing project documentation, schedules, and deliverablesDocumentation & Reporting:Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, and technical reportsMaintain accurate project records and documentationRegulatory Compliance:Ensure all designs and installations meet applicable electrical codes and safety standardsSupport permitting and regulatory documentation as neededMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)EIT/FE certification preferred or willingness to pursueUnderstanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, including power systems and distributionFamiliarity with electrical calculations (voltage drop, load, cable sizing)Strong problem-solving and analytical skillsAbility to work in both office and field environmentsEntry-level; internships, co-ops, or coursework in power systems or utilities preferredExposure to utility, construction, or infrastructure projects is a plusAny experience with cable routing, installation, or field coordination is highly desirableWhat's in it for you?Weekly paychecks Medical, dental and vision benefitsOpportunity to work with a leading electric utility company on critical infrastructure projectsOpportunity to gain additional training, certifications, and industry knowledge within the utility space
