About the job Platform Engineer Platform EngineerLocation: New York (On-site)Compensation: $160,000 - $210,000 USD + equityAbout the RoleWe are hiring a Platform Engineer to design and build a unified internal developer platform (IDP) that enables engineering teams to ship software quickly, safely, and reliably.This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, infrastructure, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). You will help establish the paved road for development - improving CI/CD, infrastructure, observability, and deployment systems that impact every engineering team.The initial focus will be on removing bottlenecks in deployment and delivery pipelines, followed by broader expansion into backend platform architecture and system design.Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform OwnershipOwn and deliver end-to-end platform initiatives focused on reliability, scalability, and developer productivityDesign and evolve internal developer platform (IDP) capabilitiesCI/CD & Developer VelocityImprove build, test, and deployment pipelines (speed, safety, visibility)Build and maintain CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions or equivalent)Implement GitOps and release automation strategiesInfrastructure & CloudDesign and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS + TerraformWork with containerized systems using Docker and KubernetesDefine deployment patterns, scaling strategies, and runtime environmentsReliability & SRE PracticesEstablish and improve SRE practices including:SLOs and SLIsIncident response processesOn-call systems and reliability standardsImprove system resilience and operational maturityObservability & SecurityBuild and maintain observability systems (metrics, logs, traces)Work with tools such as Datadog or equivalent platformsStrengthen platform security (IAM, secrets management, secure defaults)Backend & Architecture CollaborationCollaborate with backend teams on:Service architecture and domain boundariesAPI design and contractsSystem scalability and performanceDeveloper Experience (DevEx)Improve local development workflowsEnhance debugging, testing, and deployment experienceReduce friction in engineering workflows across teamsRequirements3+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or backend infrastructure rolesStrong hands-on experience with AWSProficiency with Docker and KubernetesExperience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) toolsExperience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar)Strong backend fundamentals (Node.js, Ruby on Rails, or similar)Familiarity with observability systems (metrics, logs, traces), e.g., DatadogNice to HaveAdvanced AWS architecture experienceGitOps workflows and modern deployment strategiesExperience with PostgreSQL or MongoDBBackground in scaling developer platforms or internal toolingExperience in high-growth marketplace environmentsIdeal Candidate ProfileThis role is best suited for engineers who:Enjoy working across infrastructure + backend systemsCare deeply about developer experience and platform reliabilityLike solving systemic engineering bottlenecks, not just featuresHave strong ownership mindset and architectural thinkingAre comfortable operating in a fast-growing, evolving environmentBenefitsEquity participation with long-term upsideHigh-impact role across all engineering teamsOpportunity to shape internal developer platform from early stageExposure to large-scale marketplace infrastructure challenges
