Job DescriptionThis position may qualify for a sign-on bonusFull Time DaysSummaryThe Charge Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who coordinates, supports and supervises other Registered Nurses in the delivery of nursing care. They ensure the nursing unit runs smoothly and efficiently and oversees the transition between shifts. The Charge Registered Nurse participates in patient and family teaching, provides leadership by working cooperatively with leadership, ancillary staff and other members of the patient care team in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The Charge Registered Nurse serves as a liaison between physicians, nurses and staff.General Functions:Institutes and initiates a plan of care for patient based on the initial assessment within the shift, documents; implements and continuously evaluates interventions; reassesses patient needs on an on-going basis as required per unit or procedureDevelops, discusses and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other to address identified needsRecognizes changing patient condition and modifies plan by using resources, chain of command and Rapid Response Team (RRT) promptly and appropriately.Assimilates and prioritizes information sources to take immediate and decisive patient-focused action by routinely performing patient rounds and addressing concerns timelyMaintains a safe environment and responds with confidence and adapts to rapid changing patient conditions and emergent situationsDemonstrates the skills and judgement necessary to implement plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures necessary for the care of the patientAppropriately documents all assessments, plans of care specific to patient and identified problem for care provided accuratelyDemonstrates proper documentation of narcoticsDemonstrates effective communication skills to convey information in a concise, accurate and understandable manner while adhering to confidentialityIdentifies and develops the need for education of patients, family and/or significant others and provides education, individualized instruction, the use of written materials and/or other available resources from admission to dischargeAssigns nursing care to licensed staff, delegates nursing care to unlicensed staff and coordinates the flow of workCalculates and administers medications and blood products via 7 Rights of medication; demonstrates knowledge of documentationCoordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the planning and management of patient care to meet patient needs, to include discharge and/or referrals based on patient needsResponds to the unique needs of patients and families coping with unanticipated treatment, quality of life, and end-of-life decisionsMonitors and allocates patient care services, recognizing the fiduciary role of nurses working in a resource intensive environmentMaintains and promotes professional standards with a constructive, proactive approach and development by participating and managing Performance Improvement needs, in-services, committees and staff meetingsServes as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commits to Studer Principles and must havesFacilitates team collaboration, utilizing strengths of team members, seeks and offers suggestions and shares the credit with team members putting the team's interest above own interestsFacilitates problem resolution and team collaboration among staff and physicians by coordinating, recognizing and assessing needs as well as assisting leadership by mentoring and coaching staffServes as a resource, anticipates the needs of others and offers positive suggestions and productive feedbackFacilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, maintains awareness of all patients on unit and proactively managing patient admission, discharges and transfers including the ability to prioritize to maximize efficiency and recognize acuity levelsDemonstrates ability to maintain appropriate staffing based on acuity/volumes and the ability to work effectively and make effective use of resources and capabilitiesDemonstrates ability to appropriately maintain/update online platform for patient census/acuity in a timely manner with balanced assignmentsEffectively manages patient hand-offs at shift change and between department and facilities; utilizes documentation tools for hand-offs as requiredOriginates, develops or implements new methods to accomplish objectives with minimal promptingAssists department leader by providing input for purpose of progressive disciplinary process and/or evaluations as well as assisting with staffing schedule as neededAbides by regulatory agencies standards and provides every patient the defined standard of care (ie; core measures, chest pain protocol)Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively by demonstrating independence and resourcefulnessAdheres to Tenet Standard of Conduct/Ethics as well as hospital policies and proceduresAttends safety training programs and demonstrates adherence to proper hospital exposure procedures100%Actively pursues personal and professional development including a constructive approach with colleaguesAddresses patient population-specific including an inclusive culturePerforms all responsibilities/duties required by the specific unit as defined in the scope of service and demonstrates effective unit specific skillsMaintains required competencies, certifications, online education and assures orientation to floating unit is completedBalances team and individual responsibilities and is objective and open to others' viewsDemonstrates dependability/flexibility and assumes other duties and responsibilities as assignedPerforms all responsibilities/duties required by specific unit/department to include quality improvement duties such as chart reviews and reduction of patient fallsVerbalizes and demonstrates ability to escalate unsafe conditions throughout the hospitalRespects privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information and situationsMINIMUM EDUCATION:• Required-Graduate from an accredited school of nursing• Preferred-Academic bachelor's or master's degree in nursingMINIMUM EXPERIENCE:• Required- 1 year of RN experienceREQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSCurrent RN Licensure in the State of Texas or Compact StateCurrent Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)if American Red Cross, must obtain American Heart Association within 60-days of hire• ACLS must be obtained by the end of the department orientation• PALS must be obtained by the end of the department orientation (Specific to Campus-refer to Attachment A)#LI-LG2Join our dedicated healthcare team where compassion meets innovation!
