AVP, Business SystemsLocation: Hybrid (3 days a week on site) in Laurel, MDDuration: Perm rolePay rate: $185k to $200k/annumMust Haves:Retail banking experience is a must!Strong experience with working with core back-office systems within banks.Should have experience with either Fiserv DNA, Jack Henry or Scimitar (back-office systems).Experience managing teams of people.Manager is prioritizing stronger technical (IT/SRE/ IT focused) alignment over business-oriented profiles.SummaryThe AVP, Business Systems leads and manages the Business Systems Department, overseeing clients core banking system, related applications, interfaces, databases, and business software infrastructure. This role drives system implementations, process automation, workflow improvements, and vendor management to ensure technology effectively supports staff and member needs.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & ManagementLead the Business Systems team, ensuring strong performance, training, and professional development.Manage hiring, coaching, performance feedback, and team resource allocation.Represent IS leadership as needed.Systems & Application OversightOversee core system administration, surrounding applications, database operations, workflow integration, and software management.Direct system configuration, development, report writing, data processing jobs, scripting, and application integrations.Manage software releases, patches, database updates, and application integrity.Strategic & Operational SupportDrive technology improvements by researching and implementing new solutions.Support organizational projects and Action Items aligned with the clients goalsIdentify opportunities to streamline business processes using existing and new technology.Planning & CompliancePrepare project status reports, performance metrics, department budget, and user access documentation.Support audits, examiner requests, disaster recovery testing, and compliance with security standards.Maintain inventory and contribute to the client's long-term technology planning.Vendor & Stakeholder ManagementManage relationships with critical software vendors, including evaluations and annual reviews.Collaborate with internal departments to define business requirements and communicate technical solutions clearly.Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's in Information Systems or related field (or equivalent experience).5+ years managing complex projects.5+ years supervisory/management experience.4–5 years managing core banking systems (Client DNA strongly preferred).Preferred certifications: CBAP, MCTS, MCITP, MCSA, PMP.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of enterprise applications, relational databases (MSSQL, Oracle, Access), and core financial systems.Ability to analyze business processes and translate them into system requirements.Skilled in Microsoft Office, reporting, presentations, and data interpretation.Knowledge of application security strategies and server environments related to supported systems.Excellent communication and stakeholder management; able to explain technical topics to non technical audiences.Effective leadership, coaching, planning, prioritization, and project management abilities.Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and risk evaluation skills.Able to manage multiple complex projects, meet deadlines, and work professionally under pressure.Must maintain confidentiality, security standards, and compliance with BSA, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC regulations
