Join a team that inspires long-term transformation and hope.About the roleThe Public Safety Officer position supports Covenant House NY's mission to foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for its clients, staff, and visitors. Public Safety Officers will be required to implement a range of comprehensive, integrated security measures and countermeasures. Officers must be able to adapt, both physically and psychologically, to Covenant House NY's changing needs and priorities.What you'll doUnderstand and follow the given safety procedures.Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnelCommunicate effectively, both in writing and orallyGather data, compile information, prepare, and write reportsKnowledge of searching procedures and safety inspectionsConduct safety patrols in and around buildings as assignedBasic computer knowledge is required, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.Operate all departmental equipment, including radios, cameras, computers, and online applications.Listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in emergency and non-emergency situations.Respond to calls for assistance with urgencyConduct emergency drills according to prescribed proceduresComfort in enforcing crowd control proceduresDe-escalate/intervene in physical/verbal altercationsFlexibility to work weekends, evenings/overnights, and holidaysPerforms other duties as assigned and/or needed.Qualifications At least one year of security experience requiredCollege degree preferred. A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.Public Safety Officers MUST possess and maintain New York State security guard licensure throughout their employment, including participation in and successful completion of any legally mandated training, including but not limited to on-the-job training and/or annual in-service requirements. This also applies to additional training, licenses, and certifications obtained before and during employment.CHNY is not responsible for security guard license feesExhibits strong customer service skills.
