(Lead) Data Architect - Greenfield FinTech Platform (no legacy) - Neobank - Build a cutting edge, large scale Data Lake from scratch - Remote in EU

We are building the next generation neobank from scratch. We are heavily scaling up the teams and you’ll work on a massive, greenfield fintech project building a secure, compliant platform that brings together crypto, fiat, banking, and investments in one intuitive experience. Our products include digital wallets, crypto cards, SWIFT & SEPA transfers, debit and virtual cards, POS integrations, and access to stocks, staking, credit products, and IPOs.With 150+ specialists across multiple international locations and many remote specialists, we’re growing very fast.The platform is being designed from first principles: no legacy core, no vendor lock-in, and no shortcuts on correctness. Data is at the center of every product, compliance, risk, and financial decision across the platform. You’ll design and own the architecture that powers analytics, reporting, real-time decision-making, operational intelligence, and future AI / machine learning capabilities across the company.This is a highly impactful role with lots of ownership and freedom where you will shape the long-term data foundations of the company.Your impact:Data Platform Architecture; Design and evolve a scalable modern data platform that supports analytics, compliance, operational reporting, product intelligence, machine learning workloads, and AI-ready systems across the organisation.Real-Time & Batch Data Pipelines; Architect reliable real-time and batch pipelines for high-volume transactional and event-driven systems across payments, cards, crypto, banking, and investment domains.Data Modelling & Governance; Define scalable end-to-end data models, ownership standards, lineage, cataloguing, governance processes, and architectural best practices to ensure trusted and compliant data across the organisation.Streaming & Event-Driven Architecture; Build architectures around Kafka, CDC (Change Data Capture), event streams, and messaging stacks to enable reliable real-time data propagation, fraud detection, reconciliation, and customer insights.Centralised Data Lake / Lakehouse Strategy; Lead the architecture around data lakes, lakehouses, and analytical storage systems that centralise data from multiple services, APIs, databases, and operational systems into one scalable platform.Data Quality & Reliability; Implement validation, observability, monitoring, backup/recovery, and reliability strategies to ensure consistency, low latency, and trusted data across distributed systems in a highly regulated fintech environment with very little margin for error.Scalability & Performance Optimisation; Optimise large-scale analytical workloads and distributed processing systems handling millions of financial transactions and events without impacting platform performance.Architecture Documentation & Standards; Define architectural principles, standards, ADRs (Architectural Decision Records), engineering governance, and scalable best practices for the broader engineering and data organisation.Cross-Functional Enablement; Partner closely with engineering, product, compliance, finance, and analytics teams to align data architecture with business objectives and platform growth.Team Building & Leadership; Help shape and mentor the future data organisation while improving engineering maturity, standards, and platform thinking across teams.Your BackgroundStrong experience designing modern data platforms and distributed data architecturesHands-on engineering background combined with architectural leadership experienceHands-on experience with data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouse technologies, or analytical platformsExperience with Kafka, CDC, event streaming technologies, and messaging systemsStrong SQL knowledge and experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, ClickHouse, or other analytical/distributed databasesExperience building scalable ETL / ELT pipelines and real-time data processing systems ideally with Golang but this is absolutely not a dealbreaker if you work with other languagesStrong understanding of distributed systems, eventual consistency, microservices, and event-driven architecturesExperience with data governance, lineage, quality, observability, and security best practicesFamiliarity with Golang, cloud-native data platforms and containerised environmentsStrong communication skills and ability to proactively align technical and business stakeholdersFormal architectural methodology experience and strong engineering fundamentals are highly valuedExtra:Exposure to AI / machine learning, semantic models, ontologies, or advanced analytics platformsExposure to fintech, payments, banking, crypto, or highly regulated environmentsWhy This Is a Rare Role?Building a financial data platform from scratch, not maintaining legacy systemsDirect impact on the core architecture of a rapidly growing fintech companyDeep exposure to payments, banking, crypto, compliance, AI, and large-scale distributed systemsGreenfield engineering environment with high ownership and freedomOpportunity to evolve a company from “data puddle” to a world-class modern data platformArchitecture decisions that will shape the platform for years to comeWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation around €120K baseRemote-first culture across EuropeVacation days + paid sick leaveTop notch hardwareLearning budget & lots of career growth opportunitiesRelocation support is possible to Portugal or Dubai if desired.
