In addition to creating new designs, candidate will also be responsible for physically checking that current designs are compatible with next model year vehicles, identifying shortfalls and proposing solutions. Candidate will follow the design process starting with concept initiation and follow it through total product assembly and functionality testing. The process will be facilitated by leveraging the understanding of core concepts in Mechanical Engineering. Candidate engages in continuous learning.Duties and ResponsibilitiesReads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reportsDevelops, researches and analyzes design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applicationsSupports manufacturing prototype and pre-production productsPrepares various vehicle fit reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing informationCollaborate with other departments such as Manufacturing Engineering, Test Engineering, Electrical Engineering and QA to be able to solve problems related to Engineering issues, manufacturing documentation, and/or bills of materialsConfers with Engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical informationScopeDelivers results in accordance with goals and expectationsSatisfies internal and external customer needsAssumes responsibility & takes ownership for resultsWorks well in a Team environmentOpenly communicates about commitmentsShares information readily with team and larger departmentSeeks new solutionsApplies learning to work and process flowWorks in a professional mannerTravel required - less than 10%Ability to lift heavy objects regularly and physically able to climb on and under vehicles for inspectionQualifications and EducationHigh School Diploma with 5+ years of experience orAS or AAS degree in a related engineering field w/0-2+ years' experience.Experience with installation of emergency warning and lighting systems on vehicles preferred.General working knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, blueprints, & specifications.Active user/experience with engineering software including SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalentBenefitsComply with the EH&S Policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules and requirementsReport to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazardsAttend scheduled EH&S training programActively support the organization's efforts to meet or exceed EH&S goals and plansRecommend improved EH&S practicesMust be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and third parties.
