Job Description
The main function of an electrical engineer is to design, develop, test or supervise the manufacturing and installation of electrical equipment, components, or systems for commercial, industrial, military or scientific use. A typical electrical engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Job Responsibilities:
· Design, develop, and test the manufacture of electrical equipment, including machinery controls, wiring, and lighting.
· Evaluate the cost effectiveness, reliability and safety of certain design models.
· Estimate time and cost to complete projects.
· Simulate and test machine/structure/system operation.
· Investigate and test vendors’ and competitors’ products.

Basic leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering required.

Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
Component support engineer for the Telematics products. The support engineer will be responsible for coordinating the verification & validation activities for new and current production Telematics components. The candidate will work closely with the design team to develop the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and perform the required test activities. Incumbents will be responsible for documenting test results and communicating them to the development teams. Incumbents will also be responsible for coordinating the scheduling of test activities with internal and external test resources.
The Design Verification Plan is based on Caterpillar best practices Electronic Components Tests document which identifies component tests such as functional, operating temp range, thermal, power up/power down, EMC, vibration, etc.

Typical task breakdown:
Work in a team environment to identify test cases
Testing all aspects of the product like function, performance, regression
Setting up test environments, designing test plans, working with the team to develop test cases/scenarios/use cases and executing these cases.
Running tests correctly and consistently
Interaction with team:
Work closely with the design team to develop the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and perform the required test activities.
Weekly standup meeting with section, typically on Thursdays.
Work environment:
Working with team to execute testing. Collaboration. Teamwork.
100% onsite due to testing activity required for role.

Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in engineering required, preference would be in computer or electronics engineering.
Related Associate’s Degree will be considered with an additional two years’ experience (seven years minimum)
Master’s degree in appliable field (computer engineering or electronics engineering) projects and internships will be considered toward experience requirement but durations must be listed on resumes.
PhD holders would be considered overqualified and will be declined.
5-7 years’ experience required.
Technical Skills
(Required)
Experience with lab equipment – Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Operational Amplifiers.
Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) tool/process
Experience with Failure Mode Effect & Root Cause Analysis (FMEA) process
Good documentation and presentation skills using MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Ability to communicate technical information effectively.

Experience with Operating Systems: MS Windows 7,8,10, UNIX, Ubuntu.
