In January of 2025 Torch entered a joint venture partnership with Morgan Stanley Infrastructure partners to develop, construct and operate our existing pipeline of projects and to acquire additional assets prior to the start of construction. Position Summary Torch Clean Energy is seeking a highly motivated Associate Developer to support Project Managers and Developers in advancing multiple solar, substation, transmission line, and/or storage projects from early to mid-stage development. This role will also provide business development support to help identify and originate new project opportunities. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Development and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to grow their skills in utility-scale renewable energy development. Key Responsibilities Project Development Support (70%) Support Project Managers and Developers in advancing multiple solar, substation, transmission line and/or storage projects from early to mid-stage development. Assist Developers in building and maintaining relationships with contractors, landowners, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and utilities. Support Project Managers in coordinating with project team members and consultants to ensure effective communication and timely delivery of project milestones. Assist in quality control processes to help ensure deliverables meet company standards and contractual obligations. Support Developers in identifying project risks and contribute to developing solutions to keep projects on track. Assist in preparing project status reports for internal and external stakeholders. Support Project Managers with project invoicing and budget tracking activities. Assist in the preparation and coordination of applications and studies for land use entitlements, environmental permits, and interconnection agreements. Support Developers with public outreach activities and attend community meetings related to permit approvals. Assist in coordinating with permitting staff and local officials under the guidance of Project Managers and Developers. Maintain communication logs and tracking systems for permitting processes on behalf of the project team. Support Project Managers in working with engineers and consultants to ensure regulatory requirements are incorporated into project layouts. Assist Developers in tracking project schedules and identifying potential delays or critical path items. Support project handoff activities as projects transition to construction and operations teams. Business Development Support (30%) Assist Developers with site origination activities including preliminary site screening, market analysis, and identification of potential development opportunities. Support landowner outreach and relationship development for new project sites. Conduct research on target markets, transmission capacity, and competitive landscape to identify strategic development opportunities. Assist in preparing materials for business development meetings, including site maps, preliminary feasibility assessments, and market overviews. Help maintain and update the business development pipeline tracking system and CRM database. Support the team in evaluating potential land acquisition or site control opportunities. Assist with preparation of internal project proposals and investment committee materials for new opportunities. Coordinate with external consultants and vendors for preliminary site assessments and desktop studies. Help track and analyze market trends, policy developments, and incentive programs that may create new development opportunities. Support relationship management with key stakeholders including utilities, developers, and industry partners. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, project management, or related field 3+ years of experience in commercial solar development or related renewable energy field Demonstrated understanding of project development processes, timelines, and key milestones Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Excellent organizational and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders including landowners, utilities, and government officials Self-motivated with ability to work independently and drive projects forward Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Track record of meeting deadlines and delivering quality work products Ability to travel up to 25% Preferred Qualifications: Experience with project management tools and methodologies Working knowledge of permitting processes, land use planning, and environmental compliance Experience with business development, market research, or site origination activities in the solar industry Understanding of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) principles in renewable energy projects Experience with contract review, negotiation, or coordination Proficiency with GIS or site analysis tools (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro) Understanding of utility interconnection processes, transmission systems, and FERC/ISO procedures Experience with CRM systems or pipeline tracking tools Familiarity with solar project economics, incentive structures, and financing mechanisms Experience working with EPC contractors, consultants, and technical advisors What We Offer Competitive compensation package with base salary range of $100,000 - $135,000, commensurate with experience Performance-based bonus opportunity Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) retirement plan with company match Professional development opportunities and mentorship from experienced developers Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the clean energy transition Collaborative, mission-driven work environment Torch Clean Energy is an equal opportunity employer.
