Associate Engineer
Job SummaryOpticore is seeking a hands-on Associate Engineer to join our research and development team. This role will support the final-stage processing, assembly, packaging, and testing of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and silicon photonic chips, as well as the design and assembly of mechanical components and laboratory fixtures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with delicate components, and interested in supporting the development of advanced photonic computing hardware.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform hands-on assembly, packaging, and final-stage processing of PCBs and silicon photonic chips, including PCB assembly, soldering, wiring, and troubleshootingPerform wirebonding for PCBs and chips (experience preferred but not required)Design mechanical components, fixtures, and enclosures using CAD softwareAssemble and modify mechanical parts and laboratory test fixturesCoordinate with vendorsConduct initial electrical and optical testing of components, assemblies, and devicesOperate, maintain, and organize optical, electrical, and mechanical laboratory equipmentRecord test procedures, measurement results, observations, and assembly information accuratelyAnalyze test data and prepare plots, reports, and technical documentationCollaborate with project managers, test engineers, and other team members to complete project objectives efficientlyMaintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspaceWillingness to learn new thingsMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree or at least two years of post-secondary education in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical fieldProficiency with CAD software, such as Autodesk FusionExperience with mechanical design and assemblyFamiliarity with PCB assembly, soldering, or reworkFamiliarity with common electrical test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generatorsAbility to prepare engineering reports, analyze data, and create clear technical plotsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAttention to detail and ability to work carefully with small, fragile componentsAbility to work independently while contributing effectively in a team-oriented environmentEven Better If You HaveAt least one year of relevant professional, academic laboratory, internship, or project experienceHands-on experience with electrical or optical test equipmentExperience working in an electronics, optics, semiconductor, manufacturing, or research laboratory environmentFamiliarity with optical laboratory equipment and fiber-optic componentsWirebonding experience for PCBs and chipsPrevious experience in a similar roleWorking ConditionsWork is primarily performed in an engineering laboratory and office environment.Regular use of computers, laboratory equipment, hand tools, and other office equipment is required.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand at a laboratory workstation for extended periods.Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 40 pounds.We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to shortlisted candidates.Apply Now
