No previous teaching experience is needed. We train all staff on our swimming program teaching methods. We have weekend morning (generally 8:15am-12n) and weekday (4:45pm-8pm) shifts available. We are looking for instructors for all shifts; weeknight availability preferred.Shoreview employs 20 - 25 Swimming Instructors, depending on the season, to teach swimming lessons to all ages at the Shoreview Community Center.Group lessons are 40 minutes and private lessons are 30 minutes. In addition to scheduled lessons, staff must attend training meetings held throughout the year.DUTIES INCLUDEArrive on time for shiftTeach swim strokes and water safety rules to various age groupsObserve swimmers and pool area and respond to unsafe conditionsEnforce all facility policies, rules and regulationsRegularly participate in training sessions and meetingsMaintain timesheet with accurate number of hours workedFind substitute to work shift if a planned absence is necessaryOther duties as assigned by the Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Supv/Coord/Specialist, or Pool CoordQUALIFICATIONSSwimming instructor experience preferred but not required. We will train.Must be at least 15 years old.Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.OTHERSummer Hours * (for lessons June 8 - August 25):Monday-Thursday: 8:15 am- Noon and 4-8 pmSaturday: 8:30 am - NoonSunday: 8:30 am - Noon and 6-8 pmFall/Winter/Spring Hours *Monday-Thursday: 4:45 pm - 8:00 pmMonday and Wednesday: 9 am - NoonSaturday: 8:15 am - NoonSunday: 8:15 am - Noon and 6 - 8 pm* Class hours are subject to change.Please Note: We operate a year-round, indoor pool. Applicants that are available to work beyond a single season are given a higher priority for interviews.***Swim instructor training is delivered through a combination of online and in-person training. Employees are compensated at a rate of $11.50 per hour for swim instructor training.*** FREE Community Center Membership! ***PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity.Ability to work in water and go underwater to demonstrate the physical movements necessary to teach the curriculum.Work in a warm, humid indoor pool environment with water temperatures up to 86 degrees.Ability to be exposed to noise and chemicals.Slippery surfaces walking on the pool deck.The City of Shoreview is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
