Lead Electrical Engineer

Overview In this role, you will lead electrical design and project execution for power generation and storage facilities, guiding teams through all design phases. You will serve as a primary client contact and coordinate cross-disciplinary work to deliver reliable, scalable electrical systems. You will mentor less experienced engineers, perform advanced power system analyses, and shape project strategies. This position sits within HDR's Power generation and Renewable team, delivering impact for communities and industries. ResponsibilitiesLead and coordinate design teams through schematic design, development, and contract documentsMentor and develop junior electrical engineers and designersCoordinate workload to meet deliverables on scheduleAct as primary client contact for projects with substantial electrical scopeConduct field visits with project manager and other disciplinesPrepare detailed design packages for generation and storage facilitiesCreate engineering calculations and reports (load flow, short circuit, grounding, arc flash)Lead modification projects (relay protection, inverter replacements, plant control upgrades, excitation and governor systems)Prepare major plant equipment specifications for generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, PLC/DCS systemsCoordinate electrical design with other HDR disciplines and project staffPerform cable sizing, raceway calculations and prepare schedulesDevelop I/O lists and interface with plant control systemsDevelop testing and commissioning plansReview deliverables per HDR Quality ProcessProvide internal and external technical status updatesMaintain relationships with peers, clients, vendors, and sub-consultantsIdentify and develop new strategic relationships to support wins and execution Key requirementsBachelor's degree in EngineeringMinimum 10 years of experience in Power Market Sector project executionProfessional engineering license (PE or P.Eng)Extensive experience in power generation project executionProficient in design software (PVsys, PVcase, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS) and common tools (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit)Strong proposal development and client management experienceExcellent written and verbal communication skillsWillingness to travel occasionallyleadershipmentorshipclient managementpower generation and plant electrical systemsmedium/low voltage switchgear and motor control centersgenerator, UPS, VFD, excitation, Governor systems
