SCHOOL SECRETARYRange $20.67-$29.81 hourly with Employee/Employer retirement, dependent upon previous experienceRange $17.47-$25.18 hourly with Employer-paid retirement, dependent upon previous experienceTerms of Employment: Pay Grade 24 on the Classified Wage Structure (10 or 11-month schedule depending on assignment)FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPTPOSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of Principal or their designee, works together in a cohesive environment to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school's secretarial/clerical needs.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.Performs clerical and administrative duties of the school officeActs as receptionist in answering phones and greeting visitorsInterprets school and District policies and procedures to students, staff and the public or directs the inquiry to the appropriate individual or departmentScreens visitors entering school campusCreates, organizes and maintains student files/school recordsVerifies student grades, updates cumulative folders, and prints report cards and/or transcriptsEnrolls and withdraws students and keeps written and electronic logs (Master Register) of all transactionsPerforms minor first aid when the school nurse is out or unavailableSupervises students that have been removed from class and are detained in the officeRecords and verifies daily student attendanceCompletes and files State Monthly Attendance ReportsPrepare weekly bank deposits for student accountsMaintains and updates student database records, and produces reports as necessaryMaintains and keeps legal alertsSorts and distributes regular mail, District correspondence, and student noticesPerforms all other related duties as assigned by the site administrator.POSITION EXPECTATIONS:Knowledge of:District policies and administrative guidelinesScheduling and basic employee payroll proceduresGrammar, spelling, vocabulary and simple mathematical computationsOffice practices, procedures and equipmentIntermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and specialized software (i.e. PowerSchool and AS400)Ability To:Use good judgment in applying established guidelines to solve work problemsWork independently in completing assigned tasks and in maintaining the standard correspondence, files, and reports of the officeDeal courteously with the public and obtain the information necessary to assist themWork and communicate effectively with all people contacted in the work environmentUnderstand and carry out moderately complex written and oral instructionsPOSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education and Training: High School Diploma or equivalentExperience working in a classroom environment preferred, but not required for this position.Licenses And Certifications:NoneCandidates must meet the minimum qualifications as listed on the appropriate position vacancy announcement.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical and mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Cognitive ability and dexterity to operate office equipment for long periods of time.
