Senior Software Engineer – C++ & LinuxLocation: Fully remote – South America preferredContract: B2B / Independent ContractorWorking arrangement: 100% remoteDuration: Long-term contractRole OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong Modern C++ development and Linux expertise to design, develop, deploy and support enterprise applications across Linux and Windows environments.The successful candidate will combine systems-level C++ engineering with hands-on Linux administration, automation, Oracle database management and experience supporting Java-based enterprise applications.This is a fully remote B2B contract. Candidates based in South America are strongly preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop and maintain enterprise software using Modern C++.Build reliable, multithreaded and asynchronous applications.Develop and support inter-process communication and distributed system components.Debug, test and optimise applications across Linux and Windows.Administer and troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.Write Bash scripts for automation, deployment and operational support.Build and maintain Linux deployment environments.Create and manage Kickstart ISOs for automated Linux installation and provisioning.Install, configure and maintain Oracle databases, schemas and supporting components.Support Oracle database deployments, updates and upgrades.Manage and apply Oracle Critical Patch Updates.Develop and support Java/J2EE enterprise web applications.Deploy, configure and tune applications running on Apache Tomcat.Maintain CI/CD build and release environments.Manage source control, branching, merging, tagging and releases through GitHub.Develop unit tests and contribute to software engineering best practices.Investigate and resolve production and deployment issues.Essential RequirementsStrong commercial experience with Modern C++, including C++17/20.Strong knowledge of the Standard Template Library.Deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency and asynchronous programming.Experience with inter-process communication and distributed applications.Experience developing and debugging applications in Linux and Windows environments.Strong knowledge of Visual C++ and relevant debugging tools.Strong hands-on experience with Linux, ideally Red Hat Enterprise Linux.Strong Bash or shell-scripting ability.Experience maintaining Linux deployment and production environments.Experience creating or managing Kickstart ISOs.Commercial experience with Oracle Database on Linux.Experience installing, configuring and maintaining Oracle database components and schemas.Understanding of Oracle deployment, upgrade and CPU patching processes.Experience developing Java/J2EE enterprise applications.Experience supporting Apache Tomcat 9 or later.Strong Git and GitHub experience, including branching, merging, tagging and release management.Experience writing and maintaining unit tests.Strong troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills.Professional English communication skills.Desirable ExperienceExperience supporting business-critical enterprise platforms.Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.Experience with CMake, GoogleTest, CppUnit or JUnit.Familiarity with Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA.Experience automating server provisioning and application deployment.Knowledge of application-server performance tuning.Experience working with international and distributed engineering teams.Contract RequirementsAble to work remotely as an independent B2B contractor.Based in South America or able to work suitable hours from another LATAM location.Able to provide the necessary company or contractor documentation for B2B engagement.Comfortable working independently within a fully remote international team.
