Job Title: Senior Java Backend Engineer (Hybrid – Whippany, NJ)Location: Whippany, NJ (Hybrid)Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Engineer to support modernization and cloud transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer with strong backend development expertise, event-driven architecture experience, and a passion for building scalable, resilient systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend applications using Java.Lead and contribute to modernization initiatives, working closely with development teams on architecture, design, and implementation.Build and support microservices-based applications and distributed systems.Drive containerization and cloud onboarding efforts for existing and new services.Promote and implement event-driven architectures using Kafka.Lead adoption of modern DevOps practices, including GitLab CI/CD pipelines, M1 pipelines, and release automation.Champion modern testing strategies, including automated testing and quality engineering best practices.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions.Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices, and design patterns.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong hands-on experience in Java backend development.Extensive experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures.Experience with Redis Cluster.Strong messaging systems background and distributed systems knowledge.Solid understanding of Microservices Architecture.Experience with containerization technologies and cloud platforms.Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, release automation, and DevOps practices.Strong understanding of software design principles, testing methodologies, and engineering best practices.Ability to mentor developers and provide technical leadership.Preferred QualificationsExperience working on large-scale modernization or cloud migration programs.Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native application development.Experience in enterprise financial services or highly regulated environments is a plus.
