Our team is looking for a Full-Time Medical Assistant OBS in Austin, TX to provide direct patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. The Medical Assistant supports a positive patient experience by performing administrative and specific clinical tasks under the direction of a Physician or Provider to ensure efficient operation of the clinic. The Medical Assistant functions as a member of the clinical team performing a supportive role in the delivery of patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintains patient charts and ensures completeness and accuracy of patients' forms.
Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic.
Communicates and documents any status updates and changes regarding patient and treatment plan.
Keeps patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments.
Provides administrative support and performs routine clerical such as photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
Ensures exam rooms are prepared and stocked with adequate medical supplies as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients.
Maintains and responds to e-mails, telephone calls and inquiries.
Takes telephone messages and provides feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls.
Assists team and uses downtime efficiently.
Performs other duties as assigned.
OBS Duties:
Ensures the pre-operative area provides a clean and therapeutically safe and supportive environment.
Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant
Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
Admits the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the scheduled procedure
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens for testing
Prepares and administers medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections - including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider
Monitors the patient's medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist
Confirms surgical consent, pre-operative test results and History and Physical (H&P) Report are in the medical record prior to proposed procedure
Calls the patients to confirm details of Pre-op and post-op
Reports any important health history facts to the operating room nurse/medical director
Gives patients and family members emotional support as necessary
Assisting with sanitizing beds/room in fast-paced work environment.
Wheelchair patients out and assisting patients enter the vehicle
Monitor patients and document vitals in the recovery room during post-op
Documents patient vitals and keep medical records up to date
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories
Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures
Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols
Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
Ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED
One (1) year of experience in a clinical setting
