About The TeamGateway Online Academy of Ohio provides a tuition-free, online high school experience for students in grades 9-12. As a Dropout Prevention and Recovery school, Gateway offers a flexible, self-paced environment designed to help students overcome obstacles and earn their high school diploma on their own terms.The Literacy Coach provides job-embedded, ongoing instructional coaching to support teachers in improving student literacy outcomes. This role focuses on implementing evidence-based practices aligned with the Ohio Model for Instructional Coaching for Literacy and the Science of Reading. The coach collaborates with school leadership and instructional staff to plan, deliver, and refine high-quality literacy (and/or mathematics-integrated literacy) instruction.Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.ELIGIBILITY: Open to residents of Ohio.Instructional Coaching & Support Deliver sustained, job-embedded coaching aligned with the Ohio Model for Instructional Coaching for Literacy Model evidence-based literacy instructional practices, including explicit and systematic instruction Support teachers in implementing the Science of Reading, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension Provide coaching cycles that include goal setting, observation, feedback, and reflection Support integration of literacy strategies across content areas, including mathematics where applicablePlanning & Implementation Develop and implement an annual instructional coaching plan in collaboration with school leadership Ensure coaching services are clearly defined and approved prior to program implementation Align coaching activities with district/school improvement plans and student achievement goalsData Analysis & Progress Monitoring Analyze student data to identify instructional needs and guide coaching priorities Support teachers in using assessment data to inform instruction and interventions Monitor and report on the impact of coaching on teacher practice and student outcomesProfessional Learning Facilitate professional development aligned to literacy best practices and the Science of Reading Support teachers in applying new learning to classroom instruction Maintain current knowledge of state requirements and literacy researchAbout YouCandidates must meet ALL of the following:Completion of required Science of Reading professional learning modules AND one of the following:Reading Endorsement (PreK–12)Must appear on teaching license as #059902No other endorsements fulfill this requirementOR Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Reading/LiteracyDegree title, orTranscript (major, specialization, or concentration)Degree must explicitly include “reading” or “literacy” in:ORPassing Score on the Foundations of Reading TestReceived a passing score on the reading instruction test aligned to Ohio’s Reading CompetenciesPassing this test does not result in a reading endorsement and does not replace the Praxis 5205 for teachers issued licenses before July 11, 2017.ORCompleted LETRS Training 1 and 2ORCompleted Associate-Level Orton-Gillingham TrainingPrevious experience as an instructional coach or literacy specialistStrong background in data-driven instruction and intervention designExperience supporting adult learners and facilitating professional developmentKnowledge of structured literacy and evidence-based math literacy practicesWork Conditions & ExpectationsObserving live instructional sessions and reviewing recorded lessonsReviewing literacy data, student engagement data, and course performance trendsAnalyzing student work samples and literacy growth indicatorsWorking collaboratively with teachers to integrate literacy strategies across the curriculum, not just within ELA coursesSupporting teachers with reading comprehension strategies, vocabulary development, writing supports, and student discussion techniques within their content areasAssisting teachers in embedding literacy practices into coursework and live instructionReviewing intervention strategies for students struggling with reading, comprehension, or written responsesCollaboration with school administrators and instructional teamsDocumentation of coaching activities and outcomesYearly position based on grant funding.About Us“We believe that every child should be able to be anything they want in life, regardless of their birthplace and circumstances.” – Ron Packard, CEO & FounderACCEL Schools is a network of 80+ high-performing, public charter schools serving PK-12 students.
