Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager
Position Overview
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that protect employee health and safety and ensure environmental regulatory compliance. This role leads initiatives to reduce workplace hazards, prevent injuries and illnesses, and foster a strong safety culture across the organization.
The EHS Manager works closely with employees and leadership to maintain regulatory compliance, deliver training programs, and continuously improve workplace safety and environmental practices.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance Programs
Develop, implement, and audit environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to safety and environmental compliance.
Administer and manage programs including:
Illness & Injury Prevention
Forklift Safety
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
Vehicle Safety
Hazard Communication
Chemical Hygiene
Respiratory Protection
Hearing Conservation
Hazardous Waste Management
Hazardous Waste Source Reduction
Wastewater Management and Reporting
Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC)
Fume Hood Compliance
Emergency Response and Evacuation
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with applicable environmental and safety regulations including OSHA, Cal OSHA, EPA, DOT, AQMD, DTSC, HAZMAT, Regional Water Control Board, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
Maintain permits, required reporting, and regulatory documentation.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and inspections.
Monitoring & Incident Management
Administer and monitor industrial hygiene sampling and communicate exposure risks and personal protective equipment requirements to employees.
Conduct accident and injury investigations, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain the health and safety statistics database, including OSHA 300 logs and monthly reporting.
Training & Safety Culture
Deliver safety orientation for new hires and provide ongoing safety training programs including:
Chemical safety
Forklift operation
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Hearing conservation
CPR and First Aid
Ergonomics
Hazard communication
Promote safe work practices and industrial hygiene, including compliance with Class 8 Clean Room requirements.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Provide technical assistance, training, and work direction to other departments.
Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement recommendations to support company safety goals.
Respond to workplace safety concerns and regulatory inquiries.
Administration
Maintain EHS documentation and reporting systems.
Manage the EHS department budget.
Ensure awareness and compliance with relevant quality management system requirements, including quality policies and job-related procedures.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).
Experience in polymer film manufacturing environments preferred.
Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language.
Mathematics and reasoning skills sufficient to perform job-related analysis and problem-solving.
Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and the ability to evaluate and correct process problems on manufacturing equipment.
Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations including OSHA and related regulatory frameworks.
Ability to interpret written regulatory and organizational documents (including OSHA and ISO requirements) and apply them appropriately.
Ability to interact effectively with plant personnel at all levels to achieve organizational goals and requirements.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to communicate and participate in joint projects with customers and other facilities.
Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to maintain documented competency in any required specialized skills associated with the position.
