Plant Engineer

Overview In this Plant Engineer role, you help optimize mechanical systems at the Iatan and Lake Road generating stations. You will support plant operations, manage capital projects, and oversee equipment overhauls and repair plans. You’ll develop budgets, schedules, and specifications for improvements that boost reliability and safety. You will lead engineering studies and coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful projects aligned with Evergy’s mission to empower a better future. ResponsibilitiesProvide technical support to Plant Operations and Maintenance on system improvements, troubleshooting, and project implementationPerform project engineering duties to overhaul and replace equipment with budgets, schedules, and specificationsIdentify and initiate capital projects with 1–2 year implementation horizonsSupport facility safety initiatives in work process design to reduce injuriesLead large capital projects and engineering studiesParticipate in capital and O&M budgeting; justify future capital projectsKeep current in discipline and evaluate new technologies to improve efficiencyInspect boilers and equipment during outages and develop repair plans based on codes and failure mechanismsProvide periodic engineering support to Lake Road Generating Station Key requirementsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (ABET)Knowledge of regulations, codes, and advanced engineering principlesDriver’s license; P.E. license preferredAbility to work in diverse environments and communicate technical information clearlyteamworkcommunicationinitiativemechanical engineering principlesrotating equipmentpiping and ash/water/sootblowing systems
