Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Job DescriptionThese positions are casual/on-call for short term assignments.You must be available at least 3 days per week.Assignments are in schools located across the TDSB.RequiredAquatics Staff are responsible for instruction in pools and classrooms, including individual assessment and assist with supervision of health and physical education aquatic classes as required and the following:lifeguarding during instructional programs in poolsDevelop the aquatics program (Elementary age students) or assist the teacher with the development of the program (Secondary age students)Perform maintenance and safety checks of the pool areaPerform administrative duties, including reporting and assessment of Elementary studentsAdapt and modify programs as needed and set realistic goals (for students with special needs) and adapt and modify regular equipment or ability to use specialized equipment to facilitate instruction and student learningAssist students in and out of water (may require lifting), and may assist with dressing and undressing students (Special Education programs only)Hourly Rates Of PaySupply Elementary Instructor/Lifeguard: $22.34Supply Secondary Instructor/Lifeguard: $21.283.4% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these ratesTemporary Elementary Instructor/Lifeguard: $29.79 after completing 30 daysTemporary Secondary Instructor/Lifeguard: $28.37 after completing 30 days3.8% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates(Rates effective September 1, 2024)Schedule: up to 7 hours per day between 8:00 am and 4:30 pmQualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCESecondary school diploma plus required Aquatic Certification (see below)Minimum three months related experience instructing Secondary or Elementary school aged children, or minimum one year of related experience instructing children with special needsMandatory Certification RequiredMust hold current Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Award and/or Lifesaving Society Instructor CertificateNational Lifeguard Services Lifeguard Certificate; andStandard First Aid Certificate with CPR-C from Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance or Canadian Ski PatrolAbout UsWorking at the Toronto District School BoardOur staff members are the backbone of our system.
