POSITION TITLE: Bridge Builders 9th - 10th Grade Assistant Conference CoordinatorREPORTS TO: Bridge Builders 9th -10th Conference CoordinatorPAY RATE: $115 daily per conference day and $100 daily per conference training day*Summer conference youth staff are exempt from overtime payaccording to the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as Amended WH Publication 1318, revised March 2004.POSITION DESCRIPTION:This position is responsible for the supervision of conference participants, the delivery of curriculum by facilitators during training, and all conference sessions. This position also assists with the setup and breakdown of all conference activities throughout the following at the University of Memphis and the Jim Boyd BRIDGES Center:9th - 10th grade four (4) one (1) week sessions (see dates/time frames below)BRIDGES strives for a diverse and inclusive service location. As part of the Bridge Builders program level, 600 students in grades 7-12 will connect with other youth from across the mid-south during week-long summer Leadership Conferences. The Bridge Builders program uses experiential learning and adventure-based education to provide a learning environment that is both transformational and empowering for youth.MANDATORY ATTENDANCE REQUIRED:Stewards of Training: Online CourseFirst Aid/CPR Training In person training ( unless already certified)TRAINING AND PREPARATION FOR CONFERENCE:May 26 - 28 9:00am - 3:00pmJune 1 - 5 9:00am - 5:00pmJune 8 -12 9:00am - 5:00pmJune 29 10:00am - 3:00pmCONFERENCE SESSIONS AND HOURS*:Sessions: June 15 - 19; June 22 - 26; July 6 - 10, July 13 - 17Times: Monday: 6:30am - 5:00pmTuesday-Thursday: 7:00am - 5:00 pmFriday: 7:00am - 4:30pmESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Training & ManagementLead the activities and support team with daily activitiesAssist with the setup and breakdown of activities each dayMust be able to handle conflicts with students and staff members in a positive mannerAssist with organizing the induction ceremony, including slideshowsEnsure all conference materials are accounted for and ready accounted for ready for the conferenceCo-Lead morning staff meetingsEvaluation Support & SupervisionLead the activities and support team member development and cohesionSupport facilitator development and cohesionMust be present in the conference facility at all times while on dutyAssist with ensuring all conference evaluations are completedBe a Positive Role Model for the student participants at the Leadership ConferencesMaintain professional boundaries with staff and conference participants. These boundaries are covered in but not limited to the attached Staff/Student Protocol and the Sexual Harassment Handout. Violation of boundaries with either participants or staff will result in immediate discipline up to and including dismissal.Maintain a high level of professionalism at all timesOther reasonable duties as assigned by other senior staffESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/STRENGTHS:Must have completed at least one year at an accredited college/university, have received a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience working with adolescent youth, preferred. Experience in the field of experiential/ adventure-based education is a plus.Embraces the BRIDGES values; seeks to serve wherever needed to support the Bridge Builders program and youth participants.Strong time management skills and ability to maintain required program documentation and record-keeping.Reliable transportation (public or private) is required for arriving at the service location as scheduled.Possess a genuine interest, knowledge, and passion for the BRIDGES and Bridge Builders mission and Bridge Builders program components, including community building, leadership development, and youth-led movements for racial, economic, educational, and environmental justice.Desire to serve a diverse population of adolescent youth and to assist in coaching and developing the strengths and skills of youth participants so that their unique assets are recognized and developed.Effective communication skills such as active listening, body language, clear and concise expectations, etc.; effective interpersonal, intercultural, and leadership abilities.Pass a criminal history check including but not limited to a state and federal fingerprint check and oral drug screening.Have enthusiasm for coaching and developing the strengths and skills of program participants and staff.PHYSICAL DEMANDSEmployee will regularly participate in high energy activities that require running, stooping, etc.Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit departments at the Jim Boyd BRIDGES Center, community partners, schools, etc.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear and see.The employee is required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
