Service Year Option - Nutrition Services Assistant

Job SummaryThe Nutrition Services Assistant supports patient care by preparing, delivering, and managing meals according to dietary guidelines. This role works closely with clinical and food service teams to ensure patients receive safe, accurate, and timely nutrition that supports their recovery and overall health.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent requiredMaryland resident Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18–24)Experience: Food service, customer service, or healthcare experience preferredLicensure/Certification: None requiredSkills & Abilities:Strong communication and customer service skillsAbility to follow dietary instructions and safety guidelinesAttention to detail and accuracyAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentBasic knowledge of food preparation and sanitation practices What You’ll DoPrepare, assemble, and deliver meals to patientsFollow specific dietary orders (e.g., low sodium, diabetic, allergen restrictions)Communicate with patients about meal preferences and dietary needsMaintain cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen and food service areasMonitor and restock food supplies and equipmentDocument meal orders, changes, and patient dietary informationCollaborate with dietitians, nurses, and food service staffWhat The Job Is Really LikeThe role is fast-paced and physically active, with constant movementTiming is critical—meals must be delivered on scheduleYou’ll need to balance accuracy with speed, especially for specialized dietsPatient interaction is frequent and requires empathy and patienceWork can be repetitive but requires strong attention to detailStrict sanitation and safety standards must be followed at all times Work Environment & DemandsKitchen and hospital environment with frequent movementRegular standing, walking, and lifting trays or suppliesExposure to food service equipment and sanitation protocolsRequires attention to detail and adherence to safety standardsTeam-oriented and deadline-driven environment What Success Looks LikeMeals are delivered accurately, safely, and on timePatients receive appropriate diets and feel supportedFood safety and sanitation standards are consistently metStrong communication with care team and patientsYou maintain efficiency and accuracy during busy periodsCaring for Our TeamWe offer a comprehensive benefits package to support our employees' well-being and professional growth.
