Maryland SPCAJob DescriptionJob Title: Spay/Neuter Program Coordinator (Front Office)Department: Spay Neuter ClinicReports to: Spay Neuter Clinic ManagerSalary Range: $18.25-19.50Schedule: Tuesday through Friday, 7am-5pmFLSA Status: Full-time, hourlyDate: May 19, 2026Position Summary:This position has four major aspects: customer service and assistance: including appointment booking and appointment schedule maintenance, and discharge of patients; data entry: including medical notations; occasional assistance of veterinarian and/or surgery technician; and assist with spay/neuter program development and implementation.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Customer Service and Assistance:Responding to phone calls and emails inquiring about spay/neuter servicesAnswering email and phone call requests for appointments or spay/neuterAppointment booking and schedule maintenanceChecking in surgery patientsDischarging post-operative patients to caretakers/ownersExceptional client and team communicationAnswering basic discharge questions, and any basic questions about MD SPCA programsContacting pet owner with questions if required by veterinarian or Spay/Neuter Programs ManagerAppointment reminder calls/emailsReferring customers to appropriate rescues or other clinics based on needsData Entry:Daily data entry for all non-SPCA surgery patientsMedical record preparation for patientsEnsuring all paperwork has been completed, and completed correctlyFiling of surgical paperwork for Spay/Neuter Programs ManagerCommunicating with shelter regarding SPCA surgery patientsKeeping accurate statistical data to be presented to Spay/Neuter Programs Manager when requestedAccepting surgery fees from customers, logging and submitting monies accurately and records to Spay/Neuter Programs ManagerAssisting Veterinarian or Surgery Technician and Volunteers:As NeededAssisting with patient restraint before, during or after surgeryAssisting in daily clean up of workspaceAssisting with the completion of surgery paperworkActing as a liaison between the surgery suite(s) and other areas of the shelterCommunicating often and openly with volunteers and our volunteer coordinatorsSpay/Neuter Program Assistance:As NeededSupportive work on spay/neuter programs, prospective and current research as requested by Spay/Neuter Programs ManagerOther project work as neededQualifications:Prior veterinary receptionist experience (preferred)Practical knowledge of standard procedures, veterinary records and veterinaryterminologyStrong attention to detail and excellent time management skillsQuality customer service skillsComputer/Database literate: Clinic HQ and Microsoft OfficeReliable and able to use good judgmentProficient in basic animal behavior and signalsAble to work independently and multi-taskCompassionate, outgoing and friendlyAbility to work positively with coworkers, volunteers, and the publicPhysical Demands:Standing or walking 8 or more hours per day with frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and reachingCheck-in and out, carrying cat carriers and walking dogs from front to back of house.Individual will have extended periods of sitting, computer use, talking and hearingWorking Conditions:Will work in an animal care facility that is regularly exposed to animals, animal waste, and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bitesPotential exposure to zoonotic diseases, sharp objects, hazardous chemicals, dangerous and fractious animalsExposure to disinfecting solutions when cleaning workspaceNoise level in the work environment is usually moderate
