Crisis Line Associate (Remote – Massachusetts Only) – (Thursday–Sunday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
Be the Voice That Makes a DifferenceThe mission of The Samaritans is suicide prevention. A nonprofit organization with decades in volunteer public service and proven expertise in the field, The Samaritans provides support to people who are either contemplating suicide or who have been personally affected by suicide. Our focus is not solely on those people who are at imminent risk for suicide. Our goal is to provide pathways to healing for our whole community. We do this by providing caring, sincere, and attentive listeners who rekindle people's lost sense of hope, de‐escalate situations from a crisis level, and provide the connections that make day‐to‐day living manageable through compassionate interaction in a safe, comfortable, and anonymous environment. We promote an inclusive environment where differences are acknowledged and celebrated, communication is open, conflicts are addressed early and resolved, and where there is a shared mindset of supporting our communities, we serve. At The Samaritans, our mission is simple yet powerful: suicide prevention through connection, compassion, and hope.Pay & ScheduleHourly Pay Range: $19.00 - $22.00Shift Schedule: Thursday - Sunday, 9:00am - 3:00pmWeekly Hours: Approximately 18–28 hours per week based on assigned scheduleWhat You'll DoAnswer crisis calls from individuals seeking emotional support, including those at risk of suicideProvide empathetic, active, and non‐judgmental listeningHelp de‐escalate crisis situations and foster a sense of hopeAccurately document call interactionsMeet call response and performance expectationsParticipate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing trainingWhat We're Looking ForRequiredMust be 18 years of age or olderHigh school diploma, GED, or past equivalent experienceMust reside in State of MAMust be able to meet technology requirements as stated belowStrong communication and listening skillsAbility to maintain strict confidentialitySound judgment and emotional resilienceAbility to work independently in a remote environmentEmployment with The Samaritans is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check in accordance with applicable laws.Preferred2+ years of professional or volunteer experienceExperience in crisis support, behavioral health, or related fieldsPrior helpline or call center experienceTraining & DevelopmentCrisis Line Associate training programSupervised "learning shifts" prior to independent workWe are committed to your growth and provide ongoing education and support.Device Technology Requirements (Remote Work)Bring your own device or request from organizationMinimum 10–20 Mbps download / 5 Mbps uploadRecommended 50 Mbps download / 10 Mbps uploadReliable internet connection with low latency ( Ability to work in a private, distraction‐free environmentWhy Join The Samaritans?Make a direct impact in your community every dayBe part of a mission‐driven, compassionate teamWork remotely with a consistent, predictable scheduleGain valuable experience in crisis intervention and behavioral healthEqual Opportunity EmployerThe Samaritans is an equal opportunity employer.
