OverviewUnder general supervision, performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Construction Inspector series including preparing reports, taking samples and arranging for laboratory testing; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs other related duties as required.
Primary ResponsibilitiesTheConstruction Inspector Iis thejourney levelclass responsible for making field inspections of a variety of public and private construction projects related to City facilities and private development, ensuring that construction work is completed in conformance with applicable standards, plans, specifications and City ordinances. An incumbent may advance to the next higher classification of Construction Inspector II upon meeting the employment standards for that class, recommendation of the Department Head, and approval from the City Administrator. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Construction Inspector II in that the latter is responsible for the more complex and difficult duties within the unit and may exercise supervision over assigned staff.
Minimum QualificationsAt least 2 years of full time work experience in construction, inspection, public works maintenance or the performance of related work
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
Possession of a valid California Class C drivers license
Additional InformationOnly those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process. Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list.The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review: Qualifying Only; Oral Interview:100% Weight Value. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.Applicants who require special examination accommodations due to a disability should contact the Human Resources Department five (5) business days prior to any scheduled examination at (559) 661-5404.Applicants may be eligible for Veteran’s Preference Points (5 points) and should attach a DD214 to their employment application for consideration of this preference.

OverviewUnder direction, performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Construction Inspector series including paraprofessional engineering office and field work involving inspection, field testing and surveying; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; assists in the training and lead supervision of lower level positions if assigned; performs other related duties as required.
Primary ResponsibilitiesTheConstruction Inspector IIis theadvanced levelclass responsible for inspecting, observing, measuring and testing materials utilized in construction of public facilities such as streets, storm drains, sidewalks and other public works construction to assure compliance with City standards, codes and specifications. Work is done in the office, field and testing lab. This class is distinguished from the next lower classification of Construction Inspector I by the performance of the more complex and difficult duties of the work unit, and the exercise of lead responsibilities.
