Head of Litigation & Recovery
US Head of Litigation & Recovery (L&R) – Strategic leadership of workout, litigation, bankruptcy, repossession, and recovery activities across the United States portfolio. Ensure effective management of distressed customers, minimize credit losses, maximize recoveries, and maintain compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and management of the US Litigation & Recovery function.
Lead a team of 6–8 direct reports and manage a total team of approximately 50 members.
Build, coach, and lead high‑performing teams across multiple geographic locations.
Partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Operations, Sales, Program Management, Foreclosure, and Global Business Units on recovery strategies and litigation matters.
Develop, manage, and adhere to departmental budgets while coordinating resources effectively.
Drive operational excellence by standardizing processes, leveraging technology, and continuously improving workflows and controls.
Lead transformational initiatives and change management efforts, including organizational integrations and alignment with evolving regulatory requirements.
Set account strategies and escalation paths, including assignment to Field Portfolio Managers, third‑party agencies, repossession partners, and outside legal counsel.
Oversee all litigation, workout, foreclosure, repossession, and bankruptcy matters to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
Negotiate, settle, and resolve distressed accounts to mitigate risk while maximizing recoveries and overall portfolio performance.
Oversee provisioning, write‑offs, write‑downs, and loss management processes in accordance with policy and governance requirements.
Ensure accurate and timely Loan Strategy reporting, driving strong quality in alignment with Global C&R policies and expectations.
Collaborate with Compliance and the Suspicious Investigation Unit on investigations and recovery actions as appropriate.
Qualifications
10+ years of progressive experience in Workout, Collections, Recovery or Credit functions in financial services, including people leadership.
Strong working knowledge of UCC, bankruptcy law, FDCPA, consumer collection laws, and foreclosure processes.
Prior credit underwriting experience preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, influencing, and complex case resolution.
Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop managers and teams with diverse experience levels.
Exceptional communication, judgment, business acumen, and decision‑making skills.
Experience operating effectively within matrixed, multi‑location, and global organizations.
Strong change management capabilities with experience supporting transformational initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
Ability to travel approximately 6 times per year; international travel may be required.

Pay range: $153,649 – $230,473 (based on location and experience).
