Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.Position DetailsClinical Pharmacy Specialist – Pediatrics$10K Sign-on Bonus (Paid out 6/12/18/24 mths)Position SummaryThe Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Pediatrics partners with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based medication therapy for pediatric patients. This role serves as a trusted clinical resource for physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and patients, while supporting organizational goals, advancing clinical excellence, and upholding Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical PracticeReview patient records to ensure appropriate, safe, and effective medication therapyEvaluate patient conditions to identify gaps in treatment and optimize care plansDevelop individualized medication regimens that minimize risk and maximize therapeutic outcomesMonitor patient responses to therapy and adjust recommendations accordinglyProvide consultation to prescribers, nurses, and patients regarding medication selection, dosing, administration, and potential adverse effectsIdentify and resolve medication-related issues, including interactions, contraindications, and formulary considerationsDocument patient care interventions, medication plans, and outcomes accuratelyCollaboration & Care CoordinationWork collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient careServe as a clinical pharmacy resource for pediatric care teamsMaintain strong professional relationships across departmentsParticipate in care planning discussions and clinical roundsClinical Expertise & Program DevelopmentEvaluate medication orders for clinical appropriateness and operational efficiencyParticipate in investigational drug protocols as applicableSupport and contribute to Medication Use Evaluations (MUEs), quality assurance initiatives, and adverse drug event reportingAssist in developing and validating staff competencies related to pharmacy and patient care practicesMaintain advanced knowledge in pediatric pharmacotherapy and specialty practice areasEducation & PreceptorshipServe as an active preceptor for pharmacy students, residents, and traineesDeliver educational programs, in-services, and clinical presentations to healthcare staffContribute to ongoing clinical education initiatives within the organizationOperational Excellence & ComplianceEnsure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation bodies (e.g., Joint Commission), and organizational policiesPerform required inspections, medication storage checks, and documentation (e.g., expiration dates, floor stock audits)Complete mandatory safety training, competencies, and continuing education requirementsExercise sound judgment in prioritizing workload and utilizing resources responsiblyTechnology & SystemsDemonstrate proficiency in pharmacy information systems (e.g., Epic) for order verification and clinical documentationUtilize drug information databases (e.g., Micromedex) to support evidence-based clinical decisionsProfessionalism & Service ExcellenceExhibit professionalism, accountability, and strong communication aligned with Mercy Service StandardsCollaborate effectively across shifts ensuring continuity of careMaintain a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environmentAdhere to dress code, hygiene standards, and safety protocolsPerform effectively in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive responsibilitiesRequired QualificationsEducation: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)Licensure: Active pharmacist license in the state of practiceExperience: Completion of PGY-1 residency or a minimum of 4 years of hospital pharmacy experience (pediatrics or specialty area preferred)Certifications: Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification eligibility required; specialty certification preferredWhy Join Us?At Mercy, you’ll be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to compassionate care, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement.
