Archive and Curatorial Specialist
SUMMARY: The Archive and Curatorial Specialist is an integral part of the USOPM Curatorial staff. They assist with the daily business operations of the Museum archives, caring for the collection, and assist in exhibit development and maintenance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Apply professional standards to the processing, cataloging, and preservation of loans and donations.Work with USOPM Staff in the development of archival budgetManage the workflow of digital images as neededAssist with collections care; follow and implement accepted museum professional standards and practices, including: Maintenance of the Museum’s collection management system and online collection assetsCatalogue records and create new records both in digital and paper formatsResearch artifacts and record athlete biographies as related to artifactsMaintain paper files and archive materialsPrepare documentation including provenance history for new accessions and documentation for deaccessioning (when applicable) Coordinate and manage documentation for deeds of gift, bequests, and donationCoordinate and execute loan agreements and returnsManage user access; including the training of staff and volunteers on using and working with the collection and databaseResponsible for logistics related to loans and traveling exhibitions, including documentation, condition reports, packing, shipping, and receiving. Coordinates with Leadership Team and Operations on exhibit maintenance/requirementsFacilitate tours of archives space for potential donors, VIPs, staff members, and other approved access members.Assist with development of new exhibits, including: research, sourcing artifacts for loan or donation, sourcing images, design and writing label text.Assist with maintenance of current exhibits.Related archives and curatorial tasks as assigned.QualificationsPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Strong interpersonal skills.Enthusiastic and positive attitude. Excellent organizational and time management ability.Strong communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.Strong computer skills including MS Office suite products, productivity products, and database search proficiency. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge and appreciation of archives and collections work including handling artifactsExperience with writing text for a public audienceStrong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment Working computer skills and knowledge 2+ years museum collections experience preferred. Ability to multi-task and work in a high paced environment. Knowledge of MuseumPlus and AirTable a plus. PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Remains stationary approximately 4-5 hours a day; moves around for short periods of time throughout each day/week.Stoops, bends, reaches and lifts occasionally throughout the day.Able to operate standard office equipment.Must be able to occasionally move up to 35 lbs.
