We are looking for people to work 1st shift based on skills and seniority.
Essential Duties:
I. Casting Preparation and Grinding
Process Castings: Efficiently remove excess metal, including flash, sprues, gates, and risers, from castings using a variety of equipment.
Utilize Diverse Tools: Expertly operate and maintain hand-held grinders, back stand grinders, swing grinders, belt sanders, air-powered tools, and band saws to cut and shape parts.
Achieve Finish Specifications: Smooth and shape surfaces, blending welds and repairs into surrounding metal to achieve specified tolerances and finish levels.
Repair Defects: Execute cosmetic defect repair through techniques such as peening, puttying, and precision grinding.
Deburr and Clean: Deburr and clean finished castings to eliminate sharp edges and prepare them for subsequent processes.
Remove Cores: Utilize a knockout machine and chisel to effectively remove cores from castings.
II. Blasting and Surface Finishing
Operate Blasting Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate and maintain tumbler blasting equipment to clean casting surfaces.
Optimize Blasting: Adjust blast settings (air pressure, media flow, wheel speed) to achieve optimal cleaning and required surface finish for various materials.
Material Handling (Blaster): Load and unload castings into the blaster, safely utilizing hands, hoists, and cranes as required.
Maintain Media: Monitor and change or replenish blast media to ensure continuous, high-quality operation.
III. Quality Inspection and Documentation
Visual Inspection: Conduct thorough visual inspections of all castings for surface defects such as cracks, porosity, or inclusions.
Mark and Document: Accurately mark defective areas for repair or final rejection, communicating quality issues to the supervisor.
Quality Compliance: Apply date stamps to parts in compliance with documented quality control procedures.
Tool Selection: Select and utilize the appropriate grinding wheels, tools, and abrasives based on the specific material and required surface finish.
IV. Equipment Maintenance and Safety
Equipment Setup and Adjustment: Set up, adjust, and monitor grinders for optimal speed, angle, and performance.
Routine Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on grinding and blasting equipment (e.g., changing wheels, cleaning filters, lubricating parts).
Tool Management: Monitor grinding tools for wear or damage and promptly replace components to maintain efficiency and safety.
Safe Operations: Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (gloves, face shields, ear protection, steel toes, safety glasses).
Facility Support: Complete daily checklists for motorized equipment (crane/hoist, electric pallet jack, tow motor).
Environmental Control: Operate and monitor dust collection and ventilation systems to minimize airborne particles and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
General Support: Assist with the handling and movement of castings within the facility, utilizing pallet jacks, cranes, hoists, or forklifts.
Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma, GED or equivalent. (Required)
· Manufacturing experience. (Required)
· 6- 12 months previous grinding experience for new employees. (Preferred)
Knowledge and Skills:
· Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and documentation.
· Testing required for new employees.
Working Conditions:
· Length of workday is 8 – 10 hours
· Exposed to dust, sand, dirt, and extreme temperatures in accordance with seasons
· Lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
· Pushing and pulling force 40 -70lbs
· Safety equipment includes safety glasses, steel toe boots, hard hat, gloves, and hearing protection. Dust mask (optional).
