Material and Welding Engineer
Summary:The Materials & Welding Engineer supports the development and execution of engineering projects by ensuring material and welding compliance with industry codes, client specifications, and internal standards. This role works cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, and project teams, as well as external vendors and clients, to ensure material integrity and manufacturing excellence.Duties and Responsibilities:Review and approve vendor documentation including: o Material Test Reports (MTRs) o Manufacturing process plans o NDE procedures o Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS/PQR) to ensure compliance with applicable codes and client requirementsSupport and oversee: o Forging qualifications o Welding procedure and welder qualificationsDevelop, update, and maintain company material and coating specificationsReview client specifications during tendering to identify gaps, risks, and deviationsProvide technical support for resolving non-conformances (NCRs) related to materials and weldingParticipate in client audits, inspections, and technical reviewsCollaborate with internal teams (design, manufacturing, quality, project management) to ensure material and welding requirements are properly implementedPromote and ensure compliance with company HSE policies and proceduresShare technical knowledge and best practices across the organizationPerform other duties as requiredQualifications:Required:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field2–5 years of relevant experience (additional experience considered, especially in subsea or oil & gas)Working knowledge of: o Forging processes o Heat treatment o Mechanical testing methods o Destructive and non-destructive testingExperience reviewing: o MTRs o Manufacturing process plans o NDE procedures o Welding documentationFamiliarity with industry codes and standardsStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesStrong communication skills (written and verbal)Preferred:Experience with welding codes and standards: o AWS D1.1/D1.1M o ASME Section IX o API RP 1104 o DNV (RP-0034, RP-B204)Experience with coating systems (e.g., epoxy)Subsea or oil & gas industry experienceAdditional SkillsAbility to work both independently and within cross-functional teamsStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsProficiency in MS Office or equivalent tools
