Job Title: Court NavigatorJob Summary:CASES is a New York City agency at the forefront of the intersection between behavioral health and the criminal justice system. Our mission is to increase public safety through innovative services that reduce crime and incarceration, improve behavioral health, promote recovery and rehabilitation, and create opportunities for success in the community. The CASES Court services department services facilitates court mandates or endorsed programming at all points in the criminal legal process. CASES operates alternative to detention (ATD) and alternative to incarceration (ATI) community based programs that are facilitated by the NYS Office of Court Administration (OCA) judiciary. CASES interfaces with multiple stakeholders to support these ATD and ATI program options for thousands of defendants in multiple boroughs. Specifically the arraignment team screens approximately 10,000 defendants per year for ATD and ATI programs, Supervised Releasee and newSTART. Additionally, the ATI intake assessment team screens 500 amount per year to divert people into 3 (three) CASES community based programs, Reframing Opportunity Alternatives and Resilience (ROAR), Nathaniel Community Success (NCS) and Nathaniel Assertive Community Treatment (NACT). All Court services teams are dedicated to the CASES mission, facilitating release and positive court outcomes.Salary: The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $58,000Shift Hours: This position is full-time Tuesday - Saturday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PMLocation Address: CASES Court Offices, Manhattan (100 Centre Street, NY NY 10013) and expected travel throughout NYC (see responsibilities)Workplace Flexibility: On-site - For roles that are 100% in-office/in-personWhat You Will Be Doing:Provide support for Manhattan Supervised Release (SRP) participants immediately upon release from their court appearanceAssist in the implementation of the Intensive Services Unit subsection of Manhattan SRPEngage and gain rapport with clients to assist in compliance with SRP court mandatesAssist in de-escalation of and crisis management, when appropriate after the clients releaseAssess and provide services to clients to address housing, income support, education and vocational training, social supports, employment, and primary care needsProvide transitional support for clients to their home, shelters, treatment programs and/or other services to ensure and secure connection to programmingAssist clients with linkages to and systems navigation within the behavioral health, human services, and criminal justice systems as appropriateProvide mobile crisis response to clients in distress from their court appearance and possible aid their transport to a hospitalDevote 50% of time creating and maintaining relationships with human service providers around NYC who are receptive to accepting CASES clients directly from arraignmentsDevelop and maintain excellent professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and other court partners to facilitate program admissions and maintain CASES' credibility in the Manhattan Criminal and Supreme CourtsEnsure timely, complete, and accurate documentation in the case record database including collecting and tracking participant demographics, intake, re-arrest cases, court dates and warrants for all court mandated programsProvide timely and accurate notification to the court about participant non-compliance (when participants are missing/absconded, fail to report, and are rearrested)Provide culturally competent and anti-racist services in the court 1) in accordance with CASES' policies and the delivery of excellent court services to address the needs of youth and young adults, adults, and individuals with behavioral health needs and 2) that are responsive to the race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and criminal legal history of program participantsWork a regular schedule and adhere to schedule changes to ensure SRP consistently maintains coverage for all court shifts; perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors and senior staffParticipate in supervision, case review and staff meetings, and in-service trainings to develop professional skillsComplete all other tasks as noted by supervisorsFulltime in-person positionWhat We Are Looking For:A high school diploma or equivalency (HSE) and NYS Certified Peer Specialist or Certified Peer Specialist-Provisional OR associate's degreepaintGraduate of a recognized peer specialist training program such as the Howie the Harp Peer Advocacy and Training Center Peer Specialist ProgramAt least 2 years of work experience providing peer support to individuals with serious mental illness and criminal justice involvementLived experience with criminal legal system and mental health and/or substance use recoveryProficiency with computer and electronic case recordsPreferred Skills:Fluency in SpanishEmployee Benefits:CASES cares about employee wellbeing, and we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support you and your family, including:MedicalDentalVisionVacation and Paid Time Off - starting at 25 days12 Paid Holidays per year.Retirement 403(b) Competitive matching up to 6%.Employee Referral ProgramOur ValuesAt CASES, we like to move with PURPOSE, which reflects our values:PEOPLE| Hold people's stories with dignityUNITY| Commit to a shared missionRESPECT| Celebrate the strength of diversityPROGRESS| Always work to improveOPTIMIZE| Make the best use of resourcesSOLUTIONS| Work together to solve problemsEMPATHY| Seek to understand othersAlthough we would love to learn about the skills of every candidate, only selected candidates that are selected will receive a response.
