Lead Generative AI Engineer

ResponsibilitiesLead cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI prototypes leveraging GenAI and LLM techAnalyze data and language processing needs to propose innovative mission-focused solutionsPrototype AI/GenAI components and deploy them into operational spaces using real mission dataEvaluate solutions against mission workflows and provide actionable recommendationsCommunicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences via briefings or white papersDrive projects and small to mid-sized teams to solve complex AI/GenAI challenges for sponsorsUtilize MITRE's Federal AI Sandbox and AI Platform to support R&D and evaluation of AI capabilitiesSupport experimentation and transition of new technologies to sponsor systems
Key requirementsMinimum 8 years of related AI experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 6 years with a Master’s or PhD with 3 years’ experience or equivalent8+ years of impactful AI/GenAI work experienceRecent experience with large language model technology applications in R&D or operational settingsPrototyping/developing AI components/systems aligned with department capabilitiesAbility to apply state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to data and NLP challengesProficiency in Java or PythonAbility to work independently and learn new technologies rapidlyExcellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiencesWillingness and ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance within 12 monthsU.S. Citizenship required for security clearanceMinimum 50% hybrid on-site work arrangementstrong communicationleadership and team managementability to convey complex ideas to non-technical audiencesGenerative AI and agentic AILarge language models (LLMs)NLP and knowledge representation
