Salary : $54,210.00 - $70,473.00 Annually Location : Town Hall, Chapel Hill, NCJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 26/27-02023Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 02/27/2026Max Number of Applicants: 100SummaryThe purpose of this position is to plan, analyze, review, and design work associated with the full spectrum of traffic engineering operations, including signs, pavement markings, street lighting, and traffic calming devices. The work is to aid and assist contractors in enhancing safety through their traffic control plans.Essential FunctionsWhat you can expect to be doing (Essential Functions):Notifies and creates lane closure and sidewalk closure permits for contractors working in the area.Report street light outages; respond to requests for street lighting.Develops and maintains a notification list for lane/ road closures. This list will notify Public Safety, Transit, and any other Stakeholders impacted by traffic delays.Enters all permits on a GIS road closure map to provide information for Public Safety.Manages the Road Closing permit process for the Town. Review applications to ensure they meet the approval criteria. Once the review is complete, initiate the approval process and send it to the Director for final sign-off. Will manage when contractors can do work that impacts traffic. Requires coming in at night to monitor the project.Communicates frequently with the Town Manager's office about traffic impacts.Completes all other duties as assigned.Do you supervise or not?NoneWhat are the physical demands?The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, with intermittent standing or stooping. The current contribution amount is 6%.Supplemental Retirement PlansNC 401(k)-The Town makes a contribution of 5% to the 401(k) for all regular full and part time employees. There is no employee match required. Employees have the option of making contributions on a pre or post tax basis. The plan is administered by Empower.457 Deferred Compensation Plan-Town of Chapel Hill employees have the option of making contributions to a 457. The Town does not make contributions to this plan. The plan is administered by MissionSquare. Disability InsuranceTown Provided: The Town provides both short term and long term disability insurance to all regular full or part time employees. The plan will pay up to 50% of the employee's base income up to $462 per week for non-job related injuries.Voluntary Short Term Disability: Employees have the option of purchasing supplemental disability insurance. This plan will pay employees a maximum of 25% of their base weekly earnings up to $400. Life InsuranceThe Town provides full and part time regular employees with an individual term life insurance policy. Employees have the option of purchasing additional life insurance for a small fee.
