Laboratory Technician
Job Summary
Will have a fundamental understanding of lab science concepts to conduct initial laboratory testing and analysis of food products. In addition this individual ensures the working area is equipped, sanitized, and fully operational.Essential FunctionsLaboratory testing and analysis of dairy powders, foods and supplements for moisture, fat, protein, ash, lactose with ability to be trained for more advanced analytical testing by immunoassay, HPLC, AA, mass spectroscopy etcPrepare experimental reports and document results. Provide input, observations, and recommendations for improved testing, efficiency of testing and function of the analytical laboratoryMaintain operations of the analytical lab including keeping lab area and equipment clean and operational according to cleaning and operational instructionsFollow analytical procedures with exactness, timeliness, and accuracyMaintain inventory of needed supplies and ingredients and procure same as requiredPrepare periodic reports about results of laboratory testsWork courteously and tactfully with R&D team, laboratory clients, the public and other employeesWork independently with little or no supervision once training is completed, complete work assignments on time and adjust priorities as requiredEach employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)Perform other duties as assigned

QualificationsMust possess any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school and 3 years of experience in a food testing laboratory, associate’s degree with focus on lab science, or 5 years of laboratory testing experienceThe candidate must be energetic and possess good report writing, analytical and communication skillsThe candidate must have experience with basic testing of foods, supplements or nutritional productsThe candidate should have experience using Microsoft Office software including Word and ExcelAbility to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipmentAbility to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipmentExcellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctualityAbility to stand and walk the entire shift if neededAbility to read and write instructions in EnglishKnowledge of the proper use of all cleaning chemicalsMust be able to work weekends, and overtime as required
