Recreation Assistant (Liberty)
Summary This position is located in the Liberty Program, Recreation Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Air Station Jacksonville. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in planning, developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating base-wide Liberty Programs. Programs should provide a variety of recreational activities that promote a happy, healthy lifestyle for the 18-25 year old Sailors. Learn more about this agency Help Duties Assists in developing a comprehensive Liberty Program that includes scheduling, organizing, publicizing, directing and evaluating both recurring and non-recurring activities for a target population of 18-25 year old single Sailors. This includes assisting the Liberty Program Manager with the operation of the Recreation Center complete with Internet Computers, recreational equipment and a variety of diverse programs to meet the needs of the personnel stationed at NAS Jacksonville. Maintains a high level of visibility with the Sailors through innovative methods of out-reach, i.e., use of BEQ, Galleys, and MWR facilities promoting the Liberty Program. Collaborates with other branches of the MWR Department with planning, promoting and implementing social activities to provide well-rounded programs that utilize numerous facilities. Provides input for the annual budget regarding the costs of programs and supplies needed for the Liberty Program. Maintains and utilizes entertainment resources to book and contract entertainment. Assists in soliciting commercial sponsorship from local vendors and corporations to enhance program offerings. Performs other duties as assigned. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms. Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Work may require lifting items such as papers, books, rental equipment, and athletic equipment. Work may require working outside for special events or leading outdoor outings or group trips. Must be able to work independently, make sound decisions and judgments, and have the ability to effectively communicate. Knowledge of the goals, philosophy, principles, techniques and methods of procedure used in organizing, planning, administering and conducting leisure time activities. Knowledge of the entire scope of activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests. Ability to market the program and motivated eligible patrons. Ability to operate and supervise recreational facility. Knowledge of constraints placed on the MWR program and ability to utilize resources effectively.
