Position Summary
At Germfree, we design and manufacture pharmacy compounding equipment, aseptic isolators, cleanrooms, mobile healthcare facilities, modular pharmaceutical facilities, and other mission-critical products serving healthcare, pharmaceutical, life science, and government customers.
We're looking for an exceptional Principal Electrical Design Engineer to help define the next generation of those products.
This is a senior staff level technical leadership and fellow role.
You'll provide technical design leadership while remaining deeply engaged in engineering execution and projects — from concept through production, installation, commissioning, and field support.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems, building great products, and working alongside manufacturing, suppliers, technicians, and customers to make them better.
The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of electrical, controls, and automation systems across Germfree's product portfolio.
This role spans everything from low-voltage control systems and embedded product design to facility power distribution, automation, and integrated building systems supporting our equipment, mobile platforms, and modular facilities.
You'll help define long-term technical direction while remaining hands-on in design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, supplier development, and product support.

You'll lead electrical design across products including:
Pharmacy Compounding Equipment

Biological Safety Cabinets
Mobile Healthcare Facilities
Modular Pharmaceutical Facilities
Cleanrooms
Custom Engineered Systems
Product Development
Lead electrical design for new products and major product enhancements.
Develop scalable electrical, controls, and automation platforms across multiple product lines.
Drive designs from concept through production, installation, and field support.
Improve reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost.
Electrical, Controls & Automation Systems
Lead the design and integration of:
Low-voltage control systems
Line voltage and facility power distribution
Industrial control panels
PLC and HMI platforms
Motor controls, VFDs, and EC motors
Instrumentation and sensor integration
Building Management Systems (BMS)
Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS)
HVAC controls and pressure cascade systems
Emergency power, UPS, and generator integration
Communications networks and industrial protocols
Electrical safety, grounding, and protection systems
Engineering Execution
Develop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and design documentation.
Select and qualify electrical components and strategic suppliers.
Support prototype builds, verification testing, manufacturing, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
Lead root cause analysis and implement practical engineering solutions.
Drive engineering standardization across the product portfolio.

Success is measured by better products. Within your first 12–18 months you'll help:
Standardize electrical architecture across our product platforms.
Advance BMS and EMS capabilities for modular and mobile facilities.
Improve product reliability and simplify manufacturing.
Reduce electrical component complexity and sole-source risk.
Improve controls, diagnostics, and serviceability.
Establish engineering standards that scale with the business.
Qualifications
Required
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, M.S. degree preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred
15+ years designing engineered products, systems, or capital equipment, ideally in precision medical or aerospace applications or similar critical performance environments
Strong experience designing both low-voltage control systems and facility or industrial power distribution
Strong background in industrial controls and automation
Technical leadership and/or project management experience is ideal
Experience taking products from concept through production
Able to coach and mentor engineers and technicians on technical and career development
Comfortable working directly with manufacturing, suppliers, technicians, installers, and customers

Who Will Be Successful
The right person for this role enjoys building products.
You don't wait for someone else to solve difficult problems.
You ask questions, challenge assumptions, work through the details, and stay engaged until the solution is implemented.
You can think strategically, but you're just as comfortable reviewing electrical schematics, designing a control panel, troubleshooting equipment on the production floor, commissioning a new system in the field, or working alongside technicians to solve a customer issue. You enjoy engineering.
What This Role Isn't
This isn't a role for someone who wants to spend their time reviewing PowerPoint presentations, managing projects from a conference room, or developing concepts that someone else has to execute.
We're looking for an engineer who designs, builds, tests, troubleshoots, improves, and takes ownership.
Someone who enjoys creating products that perform better because they were personally involved in making them better.
