Chief Medical Officer

Scion Executive Searchhas been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Chief Medical Officer for our client, a mission-driven acute care hospital committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality healthcare to its community. This full-time, on-site executive role is based in Chicago, IL, and is available immediately.Position OverviewThe Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the primary physician executive leader for the organization, acting as the principal liaison between the Medical Staff and hospital administration. This is a highly collaborative and operationally engaged role responsible for ensuring the quality of medical care, supporting physician leadership, driving recruitment and retention efforts, and overseeing medical education programs. The CMO partners closely with senior administration to advance the hospital's clinical mission, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth initiatives.ResponsibilitiesMedical Staff LeadershipServe as the primary liaison between the Medical Staff and hospital administration, establishing processes that ensure effective two-way communication.Facilitate the activities of the Medical Staff and provide active support to the President and Officers of the Medical Staff.Collaborate with administration to develop and maintain physician contracts in alignment with hospital policies and practices.Champion compliance with Medical Staff bylaws, policies, and procedures; assist the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) in overseeing physician adherence to bylaws and regulatory standards.Physician Recruitment and RetentionParticipate in the assessment of the hospital's physician needs and actively engage in the recruitment process.Assist in planning growth and revenue enhancement activities as they relate to increased admissions and expanded clinical capacity.Assess and implement strategies to improve physician satisfaction and strengthen long-term retention.Education and TrainingCoordinate all hospital education programs including undergraduate, graduate (Family Medicine and Podiatry Residencies), and continuing medical education (CME).Provide supervision and oversight of staff supporting CME programming and the Medical Library.Create and implement policies and guidelines governing education and training for medical and clinical staff.Management of Medical Staff Services DepartmentSupervise the staff of Medical Staff Services, CME, and Library Services; conduct performance reviews, manage hiring, and drive quality and productivity.Maintain accountability for departmental budget adherence and fiscal stewardship.Provide oversight for department policy development and implementation across areas of responsibility.Required QualificationsMinimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a licensed physician (MD).2 to 3 years of progressive physician leadership experience.Graduate of an accredited school of medicine.Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois (required).Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.Compensation And BenefitsThis full-time, on-site executive role offers a competitive compensation range of $350,000 - $390,000 (DOE), along with a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and paid time off.How To ApplyFor immediate consideration, please provide your resume and cover letter, sharing more about your experience and interest in this role via https://scionexecutivesearch.com/job/14598About Our FirmScion Executive Search is an award-winning retained executive search firm.
