The position hours will vary from 16 – 32 hours per week and this position requires availability as follows: Wednesday through Sunday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm and on Monday 11:30pm - 8:00pm. This position does not offer benefits.ValuesWe use creative and proactive problem solving to build and sustain dynamic community-based programs and quality services.We believe in the potential of families and individuals at all life stages and focus on prevention, wellness, and independence.We build strong relationships by collaborating with our funders, partners, and highly trained volunteers, always striving for an extensive commitment to diversity.General FunctionUnder the supervision of the Lead Client Facilitator, the Client Interpreter will provide interpretation services in Spanish for client reception and supporting the volunteer tax preparers, including oral interpretation of documents as necessary to facilitate initial client screening and to support tax return preparation.CORE VALUES Equity & Social Justice Values working in a multicultural, diverse environmentValues and supports inclusion and program access for clientsSupports agency goals for reducing disparities in outcomes for communities of colorAdopts anti-racism approaches to services by understanding and acknowledging systemic and individual racism and privilegeCollaboration and TeamworkAbility to collaborate and communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups within all program areas of MFS as well as other agenciesEssential Duties And ResponsibilitiesProvide direct support to Spanish speaking clients, assisting with the client screening and intake process to ensure clients understand and are eligible for tax preparation supportAssist clients in completing required documents and intake informationClient Interpreters are not eligible or authorized to provide any information on tax returns or answer tax related questionsProvide support to volunteer tax preparers to ensure information is understood by clients for whom English is a second language and for clients who speak Spanish onlyProvide data entry support as directedProvide resources and referrals to related services and provide appropriate Spanish language literature as appropriateWill provide assistance to the site with other tasks as needed including: Assisting clients through the intake process and setting up appointments; and, answering phone calls and return calls to clientsAll positions might be expected to staff and support other tax sites when neededQualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English and Spanish is requiredExperience providing interpretation services is very beneficialPossesses excellent customer service skills and experience working with diverse populationsAbility to effectively manage and maintain confidential and sensitive informationWork effectively within a team-dependent environmentAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyDemonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities depending on the needs of the programPossesses excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skillsAbility to work all scheduled hours and maintain availability through the duration of the assignmentSuccessful knowledge of and competency to operate a personal computer and utilization of the internetCompetency in using Microsoft Office and Google SuiteEducation and Experience Requirements: High School diploma, GED or equivalent related experienceExperience working in diverse communities and understanding and experience to effectively serve clients from Latino communitiesCustomer service experience Other Requirements:Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check which includes a fingerprint background check. We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.Work EnvironmentWork will be completed in person at the Gresham office location. Work is normally performed in a collaborative classroom/office environment and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. May require occasional early morning, weekend or evening work.
