Field Service Engineer

Industry: Automation / Robotics / Medical Device Travel: 60–80% (domestic; occasional international) (50%+ of the time on site in Austin, TX) We’re seeking a Field Service Engineer II with strong automation hardware experience to support complex robotic and automated systems in the field. This role focuses on installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and customer support for electromechanical and robotic platforms used in high‑throughput environments. Target Background (Strong Preference) Experience with liquid handling systems Automation hardware expertise Medical device experience involving moving mechanical components Other considerations: Formal engineering training preferred (Bachelor’s ideal; Associate’s considered) Customer‑facing experience highly valued, but strong communication skills may substitute Responsibilities Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of robotic and automated systems Deploy, calibrate, and validate equipment at customer sites Respond quickly to support requests and perform onsite issue triage Document service activities, case details, and resolutions accurately Partner with software/automation specialists on system upgrades and deployments Train customers on standard usage and basic software operation Build strong customer relationships and promote long‑term engagement Contribute knowledge‑base articles and service documentation Mentor junior service engineers and support continuous service improvement Coordinate with third‑party OEMs for escalated hardware or instrumentation issues Manage and track field service parts and inventory Key Skills Strong electromechanical troubleshooting and independent problem‑solving Ability to work cross‑functionally for fast, customer‑focused issue resolution Clear communicator—able to convey complex technical details to varied audiences Highly organized with strong documentation habits Professional, customer‑centric approach to service situations and conflict resolution Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in electromechanical engineering, life sciences, or related fields 2+ years in field service or customer‑facing technical support Preference for automation, robotics, lab instrumentation, or industrial systems Experience with TCP/IP, RS232, control software/firmware, or HVAC/cooling a plus Ability to travel extensively (60–80% for this level) #J-18808-Ljbffr
