Phlebotomist - Outreach

Outreach Phlebotomist, Day ShiftCentraState Medical Center, located in Freehold, New Jersey, is seeking a full-time Outreach Phlebotomist, Day Shift. This position provides phlebotomy services to skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes located in the CentraState service area.The Outreach phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens on all age groups and preparing specimens for transport to testing lab(s). This is a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with high patient volume. The ability to work independently and efficiently is essential. Self-motivated with excellent customer service skills are a must. An eye for detail and a high degree of accuracy in interpreting physician orders is crucial. Other duties include answering the phone and responding to patient/MD requests for lab results, fasting requirements and hours of operation. Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel around the service area Monmouth and Ocean counties. Must be comfortable working alone and willing to drive in inclement weather.ResponsibilitiesCollect blood specimens on young children to senior citizens through venipuncture, capillary fingerstick, or heelstickObtain blood according to lab policy and procedure with minimal bruising to patientLabel tubes appropriately with initials, date and timePrepare specimens for shipment to testing lab(s)Interpret physician orders and perform computer order entry accuratelyProperly instruct patients in specimen collection, e.g., clean catch urinesMaintain work area in a clean and orderly mannerRegister patients and perform order entry accuratelyScan documents into the medical recordSecure patient signatures on ABN'sSecure patient signature on consentsOpen facility/Close facilityQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredThree years' experience as ASCP-certified phlebotomy technician preferred (Outreach)Certification preferredProficient computer skills required for registering patients and ordering lab testsStrong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare teamAbout UsCentraState Healthcare System, in partnership with Atlantic Health System, is a fully accredited, not-for-profit, community-based health system dedicated to providing comprehensive health services in central New Jersey.
