Adjunct Instructor, Facilities Maintenance
Status: Part-timeSchedule: Day, Evening, and Weekend availability as neededLocation: Montgomery Community CollegeThe Facilities Maintenance Adjunct Instructor provides instruction in basic maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of residential and industrial systems. Coursework may include carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, welding, blueprint reading, building codes, and OSHA safety. Instruction combines classroom teaching with hands-on training to develop multi-craft technical skills and emphasize proper safety procedures. Classes include both high school and adult learners.Provides oversight of curricular content related to program coordination, including but not limited to the following:Provides instruction to introduce students to the discipline area of study.Develop course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans for curriculum courses assigned.Review and select appropriate textbooks and instructional materials and media for the classes to be taught.Develops lectures, classroom activities, and hands-on exercises for students to participate and learn.Monitors and records student progress in courses.Administers tests or other evaluation methods to students.Keeps records of student attendance.Create an effective learning environment.Keep current with information and skills in the respective teaching field.Comply with college policies, internal audit procedures, and local and state rules and regulations.Perform any other duties as assigned.Physical DemandsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) while instructing and supervising students in a lab/shop environment.Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.Capability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 50 pounds.Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computer systems.Visual acuity to read technical manuals, schematics, and computer diagnostic screens.Working ConditionsWork is performed in both classroom and shop/lab environments.Exposure to noise, fumes, dust, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.May involve working in varying temperatures depending on shop conditions (non-climate-controlled environments possible).Regular interaction with students in a hands-on training setting, requiring active supervision and engagement.Adherence to safety procedures, environmental regulations, and institutional policies at all times.Required Minimum Education/Training:* 3-5 years relevant industry experience in Facility Maintenance and/or Carpentry and Construction.Preferred Qualifications:NC Contractors LicensureAssociate degree in a related field of studyPrevious teaching experienceMontgomery Community College provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
