Senior Resident Engineer
SummaryThe Senior Resident Engineer (SRE) serves as the on-site leader responsible for the day-to-day oversight, coordination, and delivery of a large-scale airport parking garage project. This role acts as the Owner’s primary field representative, ensuring that construction activities are executed in accordance with contract requirements, design intent, safety standards, and program objectives.The SRE will work closely with the Owner, contractors, designers, airport operations, and stakeholders to successfully deliver a complex, multi-level parking structure in an active airport environment with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.Project Leadership & Field OversightServe as the Owner’s on-site representative with full authority over field coordination and issue resolutionLead daily construction oversight activities, including site walks, inspections, and contractor coordinationMonitor contractor performance for compliance with contract documents, specifications, and quality standardsEnsure adherence to schedule milestones and proactively identify risks to project deliveryConstruction Management & CoordinationCoordinate closely with the General Contractor, subcontractors, and design team to resolve field issues in real timeLead and facilitate daily briefings, weekly progress meetings, and coordination sessionsOversee implementation of phasing plans to maintain airport operations, including traffic flow and parking availabilityInterface with airport stakeholders to manage impacts to passengers, tenants, and operationsSchedule & Cost OversightMonitor construction progress against baseline schedules (e.g., Primavera P6)Review contractor schedules, look-ahead plans, and recovery plansSupport project controls team in tracking cost, change orders, and earned value performanceValidate contractor pay applications and quantities installedQuality Assurance & ComplianceEnsure all work complies with project specifications, codes, and regulatory requirementsOversee inspection and testing activities, including structural concrete, post-tension systems, and MEP installationsMaintain detailed field reports, daily logs, and documentation of construction activitiesEnforce quality management plans and corrective actions as neededSafety & Risk ManagementChampion a zero-incident safety culture in alignment with program safety goalsMonitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with OSHA and airport safety requirementsIdentify and mitigate construction risks, particularly those impacting active airport operationsStakeholder & Interface ManagementAct as the primary liaison between the Owner, contractors, airport operations, and external agenciesCoordinate with aviation stakeholders to manage impacts to terminal access, ground transportation, and adjacent facilitiesSupport public outreach and communication efforts as requiredSupervisory ResponsibilitiesProvides direction on all jobsite activities within the Resident Engineer Field Office. Activities are directed toward the completion of the projects. May be responsible for multiple projects concurrently. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field12+ years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a lead field roleProven experience delivering large-scale structured parking facilities or airport infrastructure projectsStrong knowledge of reinforced concrete and post-tensioned structural systemsExperience working in active airports or similarly complex operational environmentsProficiency with construction management and project controls tools (e.g., Procore, Oracle Unifier, Primavera P6)Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseCertified Construction Manager (CCM) or PMP certificationExperience with aviation authority standards and FAA-related projectsFamiliarity with sustainable parking design (LEED/Parksmart) and smart parking systemsPHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENTThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
