Process Design Engineer, Cathode

What To ExpectTesla’s Materials Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated Process Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – Battery Cathode materials.As a process engineer in our Cell Engineering Team, you will lead the development and deployment of new-to-the world chemical production processes and equipment. A successful team member will lead projects starting from the concept through design, install, integration, ramp, and handover to operations teams.What You'll DoDevelop operating procedures, safety protocols, and maintenance plans for large-scale chemical process equipmentSupport operations teams with achieving productivity and material quality targets on pilot and commercial scale systems Interface with equipment suppliers through concept development, system design, detailed design, procurement, installation, and acceptance testingWork closely with battery materials R&D team for the introduction of novel materials and new process methods at commercial scaleReceive and evaluate a problem statement, brainstorm and downselect solutions ensuring priority metrics (time, quality and cost) are maintained, get stakeholder buy-in, design & purchase equipment, create install instructions and lead commissioningLead Design for a section of large capital scope (>$5MM). Develop design with cross functional team (P&ID, M&EB, Line/Equipment Sizing, modelling), drive consensus followed by FRQ submissions & following project through FAT of equipment, install and commissioning.
