Job DescriptionThe Machine Adjuster plays a crucial role in ensuring the precise adjustment and calibration of converting machine mechanisms to meet job specifications. This position is responsible for providing essential guidance and job-specific instructions to Machine Operators while actively monitoring production and machine performance throughout job completion. As a key member of the Operations team, the Machine Adjuster troubleshoots and repairs converting equipment, supports the training and development of Machine Operators and Trainees, and upholds all safety requirements.Essential Functions Set up converting machines to produce envelopes that match design specifications provided on the job tickets and artworkMonitor the converting equipment during production runs to ensure quality and to maximize a high level of productivityDispense ink from ink station according to job ticketMaintain ink viscosities to ensure color consistencyMount plates using plate mounting tapesSet impressions, etch and registration on production machinesEnsure guards and interlocks are in place and operational, and housekeeping is in good order and maintainedDirect the Machine Operator in various stages of machine start-up, changes and quality and productivity standardsProvide training to coworkers, including other Machine AdjustersRecord set-up times, down time, repairs, quality control and raw materialsAssist other Machine Adjusters with quality evaluation, trouble shooting, break coverage, etc.Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, trouble shooting and machine adjustmentCommunicate effectively regarding machine or facility problemsLocate and retrieve paper and other materials from inventory as neededEnsure job materials are appropriately stocked before shift changeEffectively communicate to team members and support teams on incoming shift to ensure continuous production of product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materialsCollaborate with Sales and Management with information regarding machine capabilities, production timelines and tooling needsChampion lean activities through participation and supportDemonstrate ability and willingness to work overtimeUphold and promote the Company’s CARES Core Values: Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and SafetyPerform all other duties as assigned Competencies Strong reading, writing and mathematical skills; ability to read equipment manuals, directions, schedules and tickets (English) and communicate to Machine Operators and other staff membersStrong mechanical aptitude and skillsAbility to quickly and precisely read rulers in English and metricAbility to trouble shoot when problems surface in the envelopes being produced or in the functions of the equipmentKnowledge of electrical systems, counters and vacuum systemsPhysical stamina Preferred Education And Experience High School diploma or GED equivalentTechnical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance is preferredMinimum 2 – 5 years of experience as an Envelope Machine Adjuster preferredStrong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to adjust, repair and maintain high-speed automated machineryExperience with pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical systems in an industrial setting is a plusKnowledge of safety protocols and preventive maintenance procedures in a manufacturing environmentPrior experience working with W&D, RA or FL Smithe envelope converting machines is highly preferred
